Durham to deliver the jeep

James and Barbs' GPS directions took us straight to the address in sleepy Durham, with the university its only real focal point. We briefly stopped at the train station to check departures to local airport to pick up hire car (if we could get a stupid internet connection, everywhere seems to have WiFi but no computers, grr!). The earliest train left at 7.15pm that evening (airport only 12 miles away, not ideal!) Arriving at address to drop off jeep all we could really hope for is the owner of the jeep to be hospitable and kind enough to let us use their internet and possibly take us to the airport. Instead we were met by David, who instead of inviting us in for a drink after our long journey said "right, shall I take you guys to the nearest bus station?" We said we needed to use the internet quickly to help get us out of our predicament so he drove us aimlessly around Durham, getting lost in his own town trying to find somewhere with the internet. We drove past the university where he is the dean of the law school in which i'm guessing they had computers! David droned on about his son being at Yale law school, blah, blah, blah... Eventually we decided it was best just to get out and say our farewells to David and the jeep and used the internet in the Marriott Hotel. I went in whist Doddy sat outside with 2 backpacks, the tent, some charcoal, a starter log and two tomatoes!

With the car all booked we headed to the airport by taxi as the bus would take 2.5 hours to get there (again, a 12 mile journey taking 2.5 hours...only in america!) As our car hire voucher hadn't come through by the time we arrived at the airport we didn't know which company we were booked with (had used an internet comparison website). Doddy very kindly volunteered to run round them all and eventually found that we were with Alamo. Eventually we got the car sorted and we were allowed to meet our new partner, a blue Nissan Versa, and our duo became 3.

Again we were back on the road and about mile or so from the airport we stopped and discussed where in the States we were going next. What a brilliant feeling, we could go where ever we liked, all we needed to do is to be in Vegas in around 3 weeks time!

Hello
Three posts in two days - I can hardly keep up!! All sounds really good though. A few stereotypes seem to be validated already, from what I've been reading! Good luck with the rest of it! Yanz x
