Western Breakfast at Holiday Inn
It was a fancy Holiday Inn, we asked how much a room would be on our return from Seoul and it was 1700 HKD=$219 too much for our budget in Asia. We got up and had the best American breakfast since we have left the USA and it was at the Holiday Inn next to our hostel. I had an omelet and Pete had waffles and bacon with the best coffee, hmmmm.
We then made our way to the bus stop that would take us the the Hong Kong Airport. All flights to and from Hong Kong are international, the only airport I have ever been to that is like that.
I know Hong Kong is part of China but after traveling there I say "NO WAY" even more. The Chinese say 1 Country, 2 systems. I say "2 countries, 2 systems". First they have their own flag, 2nd they have their own currency, 3rd I have to go through immigration to get into Hong Kong and lastly, they drive on the left side of the road(China drives on the right). What do you think, One Country or Two Countries????
As we boarded the plane to Seoul we were getting very excited to visit a new country but also leave China behind for 8 days. Even though in South Korea we will NOT be able to use our Mandarin
At Hong Kong Airport
Feel in love with HK or maybe just the excitement of people speaking English it will be fun to adventure around the new city.
We had a great flight and got to watch movies on our own screens(Go Asiana Airlines!!! Voted BEST airline for 2009 and we Agree, they ROCK.) We both watched The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 starring Denzel Washington in NYC when a few guys decide to take the subway trains for ransom. Food was good and gotta love international flights for Free Alcohol. It was only 3 hrs and 30 minutes from Hong Kong to Seoul.
When we got off the plane, through immigration, got our luggage then out to the bus that would take us right to our hostel. The hostel gave great directions from the Incheon Airport to their location by bus, taxi or subway. We took the cheapest route, the bus. It was comfortable and only 7,000Won=$5.83 roughly, in 50 minutes we arrived in Seoul looking for our hostel. The sign was not big and we couldnt find it. Great here we go.....We walked into a bakery and asked if anyone spoke English. They looked very confused yet wanted to help, they called the hostel and the hostel worker/host walked toward us and found
us. LOVE South Korean's very helpful and caring culture.
This hostel had a much different feel; it was friendly, offered breakfast(hard boiled egg and toast) also had free internet and a social room where you could meet lots of people from around the world. Mostly English Teachers in South Korea that were on holiday also; for Chuesok(basically Korean Thanksgiving but for the ancestors) It is the biggest holiday in Korea and it happened to be while we were there. In China we got 8 days for our holiday but in Korea since it fell on a Saturday they just got Friday off (3 day weekend).
We had dinner with John and Rhiannon the first night, then went on our Seoul City Tour with them on Friday.
