Hi guys just thought that i'd let you know im alive!!!!!
Wow this whole being Mr adventure stuff is tough!
Ok, where to begin.
So i left Vancouver yesterday (thurs) and took a bus to Seattle airport and spend the night there with no dinner and a mat on the floor to sleep on, think i had about 3 hours sleep before it was time to go and check in at 5am.
So a hungry me went and got breakfast while waiting excitedly for take off.
I landed in L.A.X. and built my bike in the not so fresh L.A. air just outside the baggage re-claim, needless to say that i had an audience for most of my ordeal. Devistating news tho, i blew an inner tube while putting it back into my bike so my one and only spare is in use and i haven't even got on the bike yet...oops!
In my infinate wisdom i decided that i didn't need to buy a map until i landed because everyone knows that you can get them at the airport right?? Nope..oops! And the internet didn't have internet so it was down to the good old
asking for directions to get me on a road that i saw from the plane and decided that it was the one for me...excelent reasoning in my book.
So I adventually managed to wrestle my bike into a position so that i could get on and ride, easier said than done i can tell you, i think the bike weighs about 35kg all told, in other words lots!
I never quite appreciated how big a 4 lane freeway is until today when i looked over my shoulder to see 4 solid lanes of traffic bearing down on me, possibly the scariest thing i can imagine at the moment. The rest of the ride went smooth enough with roads down to 2 lanes in each direction and a small path for me on my bike at the side.
So 94km later i have arived in a town called Oxnard which leaves quite allot to be desired and the sun dissapeared and has been replaced with fog hmm thought it was sunny in California??
At the moment i am out the front of a coffee shop and its dark ( its 8:15) and i haven't had dinner yet
and my camp spot is another 5km or so away so i best be off.
My mission for tomorrow it to get to a camp spot about 40km west of Santa Barbra, not sure if i'll find internet there but if i do i'll post another blog. I also need to find a map and fast, its not so fun not knowing how far it is to your destination I've found out or as it turns out to your bed for the night.
Ok so im off for a well deserved sleep, but before i go i'll give you the stats from today so far
Time riding - 5 hr 13 min
Average speed - 19.8 km/h
distance - 103.25 km ( think that will be up to 110 by the time i stop)
max speed - 55 km/h (scary on a fully loaded bike!)
