After two years of talking about it, finally getting out of Los Angeles heading to Beijing
It wasn’t easy for me to get the leave approved from work, while the others can get their leave approved for whatever reason and what ever length of time. Who said the work place is fair. As long as I got approved, I am happy. Otherwise will be bad news.

It is lucky to get off terminal 2 instead of TB, it is a lot quicker to check in. However, Air China counter lady give me hard time. The wt. limit is 24.5 kg while I have 39. I check two pieces including the carry on because I do not want to take care of it when fly alone. I said usually are the total wt. divide by two. She insisted is per luggage. She asked me to repack it otherwise will be a $55 charge for over wt. For $55 I can eat a whole month in Beijing, so I repack it again and again. After 3 times I finally got it.
I have the 30” hard case that is why so heavy, the empty luggage I wt. 15 lb already. The reason

major street in front of hostel
I bring it is use as a foot locker for valuable in hotel or other strange places.

The airport is unusual empty tonight. I asked the security and he said last night before was mad house. After boarding, it is looking good also. I sit on the window isle and the two seats next to me still empty. I put stuff on it as soon as the door is closed. Ha-ha, I have all three seats so I can lie down and sleep. Best deal ever because the airplane always packed. I got the ticket for free ( just pay the airport taxes for $220US ) from the mileage make it even better.

It even more unusual, it arrive Beijing international 1 hour early at 4:30am. I try to stand by Starbuck and got the free Wi-Fi, I do not know is from Starbuck or not.
Took the airport bus in town for 16rmb and than take the taxi to the hostel for some thing like 20rmb. Cheap way to do it.

Finding the Gulou Dajie Zhangwang Hutong 旧鼓楼大街张旺胡同 is not that easy.
It is inside of the hutong alley. After check in and fund out no window for the small room. Rooms with window cost more, who care at this time. Nothing to look out, A/C on all the time anyway. The room so small , one person is ok, two will be tough. At least it is clean and the front desk speak English. Lot of eating places near by, you can go to the fancy bar or local market in the walking distance. Take the exit "B" of Gulou is ten minutes walk to the south. And is inside the Hutong, you can have a nice and quiet sleep without any traffic noise. If you can manage some Chinese you can has a variety of food in the morning for less than 1 US$, or the morning market 6am to noon for fresh fruit, really fresh and cheap. Price goes up with the sun.

Thanks for the fotos TL. Meat market reminds me of Manila. Your office is still clean and plants still alive. I'll send you invoice later on plant maintenance. I want to see pix of "nanny" applicants for Mr Wu. Enjoy your travels. BG

Camera Gear?
Hi Tony, You did it! I didn't think you were serious about taking leave for China. What camera gear did you pack with you this time? It looks like you have a wide angle lense wide enough to take a picture of your hotel room.

Greetings
Hi Tony, What in the world are you doing in China? Are you going to school there? Are you learning Chinese there? How long will you stay there? The City is imposing furlough. Why wouldn't they approve your request for leave?

hi tony,
At least you backup your words with action. Enjoy your experience for the next three months while study mandarin in Beijing. Keep us posted on your progress via TravelBlog. So far the blog very entertaining and easy to understand. Is Liz and your family plan to visit you while you’re in Beijing? Any other future traveling plan for the next coming year? Take care and don’t study too hard. RLew
