Day 2 - Done!Day 2 - Done!Day 2 - Done!

Mark as we arrive in Otorohanga.

Day 1

Neither of us could quite believe that Day 1 of the cycle was finally upon us. We were both a little apprehensive of the 100km+ that we had to cycle that day as it was much more than either of us had cycled in one day in the past. Thankfully, the further away from Auckland we got the quieter the roads were, and the conditions were near perfect for cycling - dry with very little wind. The first day adrenaline must have been high as we made it to Hamilton in around 5 and a half hours, much faster than we had aimed for. We spent the night with Roger, an old friend of Mark's family. As well with putting up with us for the night he treated us to fish and chips for dinner, which were fantastic and our treat for completing day 1 in one piece! We were both shattered and rested up in bed by 10pm, knowing that day 2 should be much easier.

Day 2 - Hamilton to Otorohanga (65 km)

Day 2 was a much shorter distance to cover, the shortest day on our route infact, however it was still a pretty hard shift with many steady inclines. Although it wasnt too sore on the legs, the bums were now feeling 'a little tender' but we both know that the the worst is yet to come. We arrived in Otorohanga in good time, knowing that we would need a good rest before the next days cycling down to New Plymouth.
