Where we went canoeing on the Dordogne

Luscious Lillie’s blog

Well, we’ve excelled ourselves over the last few days, staying in Sarlat, which turned out to have an ancient medieval cité, restored as only the French do. We spent a pleasant day and evening there. However, we stopped over night at an Aire on the outskirts of town which turned out to be the noisiest ever, not a wink of sleep.

Moved onto visit Les Eyziers which was marvellous set in the heart of the Dordogne countryside by the banks of the Valeezes, surrounded by pre-historical sites where nethandrical man once dwelt. Our Aire was amazing so peaceful, quiet and welcoming (see picture).

The first day we cycled along one of the recommended cycle tracks, supposedly an easy 12km, however we got lost and ended up cycling about 18km mostly up very steep roads! Today by contrast we set of to cycle what Alan described as a mere 8km ride mostly along the side of a river, how steep can it be he said? 20km later having cycled from sea level up a mountain (no word of a lie.) we got back to base camp. However I only stopped twice, once on

the way there and once on the way back! So Julianne better beware there is a rival to your crown of ‘Cyclist of St. John’s’, remember I’ve been to Ireland I know there are only small hills!

Another sunny, warm day which was put to good use. Yesterday was
removing the carpet from the van and generally scrubbing it cleaner than it was and today has been laundry at the campsite we are at in Montignac. Really living the high life! We are still recovering from our 20k trip to Roc St. Cristopher (see pictures) however today we cycled a short way to view the cave paintings at Lescaux which were pretty good. (no pictures allowed)
Scored major Brownie points with Liz as I managed to get the Satellite TV working and dyed her hair which we did sitting outside the van. I had some admiring glances from the blue rinse brigade at the communal dishwashing later on. As a further bonus I even managed to confirm with some French guys that I was not English but belonged to that tiny nation who recently beat them at football home and away.

Staying at a campsite in St.Foy LeGrand right on the banks of the Dordogne. We hired a canoe and managed about 10k (downstream) which was very pleasant, even better is that they come and collect you and your canoe

Hi from Dunning!
Hi folks, Photos are great and sounds like you are really enjoying yourselves. Not sure I could have coped with the cycle ride, so maybe Muriel's got the right idea. Now Alan I know you say you scored Brownie points for dyeing Liz's hair but what's the hair like Liz, I notice there are no photos of you at this stage? Is it really Luscious Lillie or Busy Lizzy? Look forward to the next blog! Keep living the dream. Take Care. Gadget Woman x
