We get a four-day weekend because there is no school on Fridays (usually) and Monday is Brazil's Independence Day. I went to the beach for an hour and half on Friday and then it started to rain. And I took a nap for the rest of the day! On Saturday, I took the bus to Shopping Barra, but I forgot my camera. It was my first time on the bus, it costs 2.20 R$ (1US$=1.85R$). I took a bus that had "Shop Barra" on the window sign and I was afraid I didn't get on the right bus, the ride there had twists and turns and I didn't recognize anything, good thing I asked the lady next to me (listening to her mp3) if the bus was on the way to Shopping Barra and she works at the mall so we got off together. I met up with my mom at MacDonalds. It was such a feat to catch the bus. I get carsick (or a little bit queasy) easily here and I think I know the reason..their roads here aren't paved nicely. There are lots of bumps and twists and turns.
On Sunday, the family went out to eat at a restaurant by the sea close to Fort Monte Serrat. We had Bahian food, something with forafo, crab meat, muqueca camarĂ£o (shrimp with coconut juice, etc), rice and other things..haha. Then my parents drove to the Fort where I took some more pictures of it with Leo. Later on in the day, my mom's parents came, they're from the outskirts of the city.
Monday, Sept. 7th is Brazil's Independence Day, and they have a parade. I think it started around 9AM. I woke up around 9. I ate breakfast and then went downstairs to watch. The governor of Bahia passed by (I saw that on the news later), the paraders were military people, students, veterans, public services such as firemen, paramedics, religious groups, etc. It was all pretty formal. Allyson was downstairs when I got there. She is a student in our program. I took random pictures of the parade. Then I took pictures of today's lunch. And now I'm ready for a nap.
Actually, I'm trying to finish this article on Russia's current leadership regime.. it's pretty interesting
