Margarita's beautiful hostel
We arrived in Bogota safe and sound last night. The airport routine was surprisingly straightforward and they even fast-tracked us as we had a child with us.

We took a taxi to our accommodation in La Candelaria, Anandamayi Hostel. We were greeted by Margarita who speaks fluent English - a relief as Fee´s spanish was fast asleep somewhere in the back of her mind. The hostel is beautiful, white washed walls, internal courtyard gardens and loads of colonial character. The garden is full of beautiful flowers and we even spotted a hummingbird this morning.

Breakfast at a local cafe where we soon learned that we needed to order cafe tinto, otherwise what we got was a very very weak white coffee. Margarita sat down with us after breakfast to give us some ideas on sightseeing in Bogota.

We started with a walk to the funicular to Monseratte. The funicular was fun, very steep, and when we got to the top the view was stunning. We were 10,000 ft above sea level.

Our first Colombian lunch was very good. We went into a little restaurant where we were asked if we were having the menu - we sort

of expected the menu to choose from but in fact they only served a set meal where you could choose between meat or chicken, with bananas or something else. Starter was soup with chicken feet in it (we left the feet you´ll be surprised to know). Main course was served with fried banana - yum.

Back to the hostel for a quiet afternoon & evening.
