Happy Christmas Melbourne!

Arriving back in Melbourne felt a little bit like coming home. Not only did we get the opportunity to spend Christmas with Suze's family, they also made us feel really part of the family, even as far as buying us some presents to open on Christmas Day morning!

With Suze's Aunty's family all being Greek-Macedonian it gave the holiday an even more interesting feel, if having a walk around the estate on Christmas Eve evening in shorts and t-shirts wasn't different enough, we ended up with a giant lamb on a spit for Christmas dinner and although it was a totally new experience we really enjoyed it, as well as keeping in contact with home as much as possible to fel like we were involved with what was going on back there too.

New Years and finding the mansion

With New Years looming we decided to forego the massive expense of travelling to and staying in Sydney and stay with friends in St Kilda and enjoy New Years in what would be our new home for the next six months. We had a really good evening wth some good fireworks displays in the city followed by a really busy open-air concert at Federation Square and the streets were absolutely heaving, followed by the mass exodus of thousands of people fighting for the trains, trams, buses and taxis home.

The following morning with solid hangovers we continued on our mission to find an apartment in Melbourne, finally narrowing it down to looking for a place in the suburb of St Kilda (the nightlife & proximity to the beach winning over all of the competition).

Luckily we went with an estate agent (after numerous failed attempts with websites and backpacker accommodation companies) and found 'Ripplesmere', an amazing apartment in a Heritage-Listed 19th Century Victorian mansion right in the heart of the bustling town. After a day and night in the apartment with no electricity (just a number of cock-ups by the estate agent we'd come to realise), on came the lights and finally we were able to settle down and set up home for the next six months!
