I arrived in Quito today at about 11.15am after a short flight from Guayaquil. My initial plan was to get the bus but then I found out it was a 9hour bus journey and so the $60 flight ticket didn´t seem quite so expensive any more!

It was great to fly out of Guayaquil during the day - I had arrived at night time - and seeing the city from the air with all its colourfully painted buildings meant that I could pick out some of the places I had been to in the last fortnight.

Arriving in Quito in daylight was quite an experience too - the plane can´t´ve been much more than a few thousand feet when we emerged from the clouds and after a brief but incredible view of the capital city squashed between the mountains we landed safely.

I´m staying in a youth hostel, in a dorm with another Scottish guy and 3 Irish girls. There´s free internet access so I´ve spent most of my time since I arrived catching up with this blog and sending emails so it´s definately time for me to go and explore the city a bit.

I´ll try to write a wee blog regularly and put on some pics of the city. Tomorrow I plan to go up to the Equator and on Wednesday I want to go to Cotopaxi which is a huge volcano in the Andes.

Speak to you soon,
Love Ricardo xx

Just a quikie so you know we have found this site and to say it is great to read all the reports and see the lovely photos. Auntie Katie and I have just had a good look together. I will show Dad how to log into it all when he gets back. This blogging is an excellent idea so we look forward to the next installment. aml m xx

Welcome to Quito
Great to hear your news. It was a good decision to fly to Quito. That was a long trip by bus but quite short by air. Was at the prayer meeting to night and God is right with you. Mum and KT and I went to the David Livingstone centre in Blantyre. It was very good. it is along time since we were last there. He was such an incredible man; just like you in many ways. Look after yourself and all your goods Love Dad

Good blogging
Richard, Great to hear from you and even see a photo of you on the equator, good stuff. We're back in the UK now after great traveling and hostels. Dorm accomodation is a cheap move and so credit for that. However... a 9 hour bus trip....nothing my friend. Our best was 22 hours and a total of 174 hours during our trip, flights...only for girls (not including Jayne). Glad you made it though and sounds like you are well, we didn't get any views of places from the air which sounds good. enjoy yourself and go for some street food. Pete and Jayne
