We woke up this morning in one of the most beautiful places in the world. From the second we woke up, everything around us looked like a postcard….however it did not feel like one. The temperature in Yellowstone on a July morning is, 34 degrees. These girls are used to Raleigh summers, not Buffalo winters. We were EXTREMELY underdressed in our tank tops and shorts. We both strapped on our sweatshirts, and I used my noodle to put on japris over my shorts and socks with my flip flops. After suiting up, we ventured through the Grand Tetons and tried unsuccessfully to find more wildlife. The Grand Tetons trail lead us into Jackson Hole, Wyoming where the wild wild west is truly alive. Fern was very happy after finding her coffee to warm her up. We toured the unique shops, had a picture under the arch of elk antlers, and were on our way! (Charity and Liz you are going to love this town, but be aware of the road construction along the way!)
As we departed the parks, we knew we were in for fun in the name of potatoes. Idaho did not disappoint!! We drove to Driggs,

ID and saw a giant potato at a drive in. Ashley posed on the wonder spud, and we were off again for another potato filled adventure. In Blackfoot we visited the potato museum where we learned about potato growth, farming and processing. On our way out of the museum we were given our complementary hash browns and a coupon to a neighboring restaurant. At Robe’s we enjoyed potatoes two ways (tots and fries) and delicious bacon burgers. Then…driving, driving and more driving. Don’t worry Ashley managed to entertain herself with Greta, texting, straightening the playpen, candy, drinks, talks with her grandpa and finally refolding everything in her suitcase. We made the most of our longest car day by having warhead contests and trapping pterodactyl like bugs that fell into the car. The fun was hampered by the temperature. At it’s highest we saw 101 degrees. Yes, that is hot and yes that is a 66 point increase in one day. When we were slightly delirious, we stopped at a gas station and played around in the beer cooler while practicing our Spanish to beat the heat. It was only a temporary fix. The Jimmy stayed balmy for the entire day!!! We had the windows all the way open and the bug population knew it! Other than the pterodactyl that fell into the car, we were attacked on all sides. The worst of all was the one that kamakazied into Fern’s mouth, causing her to spit out the window and subsequently on Ashley’s face. All in all it was a great day with the wind in our hair, popsicles in our mouths, and America’s beauty at our fingertips!
As the moon rises (I mean dropped out of the sky like a bag of nickels), we headed towards our hotel, already reserved by Aunt Charity (she’s the best!). We stopped at a local town (we mean the only one for miles and miles), Winnemucca for a quick bite to eat. However, little did we know quick is not in the vocabulary of the wild west. Our friend Jessie, was struggling behind the counter, after counting $1 and 94 cents of change for Ashley (who had actually given her exact change and only needed $2), she preceded to give Fern back change from her own pocket. The other 2 employees joined Jesse, while we waited on our food, by lying horizontally on the counter and playing with their cell phone. We are pretty sure they recognized us from our blog and were too scared to ask for our autograph. We finally got our food and headed to the hotel. We pulled in to the Knight’s Inn to find it was a Truck Stop, we mean Casino, we mean restaurant, we mean Subway, oh yeah our place to stay. You can view the registration desk among our photos of the day. To sum up the state of Nevada, it requires two words Caliente and Dry, with a few truck stop/Casinos/Mustang Ranches along the way!

Idaho Potatoes
Did you guys eat any potatoes while you were in Idaho? How did a bug end up in Fern's mouth? Did she ride with her head sticking out of the skittle? Of course, I have to get my questions in!
