Californische Kust
Volgende keer over Happy Camp, deel 2.
Liefs en tot mails,
Hubert en Willeke
Californian Coast
After our visit to Yosemite we went back to San Francisco. This time we took the Bay Bridge, not as beautiful as the Golden Gate but just as impressive. This bridge has two levels, the bottom one goes one way and the top level goes the other way, it’s different.
We hit the coast again at Jenner and went north along the coast. On the way we visited Fort Ross. It’s an old Russian fort which is
a museum now, nice to watch all the old furniture and canons.
The road took us to Gualala, real funny name haha ….. Gualalalalala. We ended up on a beautiful spot, again ! The small camp store was across from us which was ideal and the river was in walking distance. The name of this campsite is Gualala River Redwood Park, just as all the other businesses they put the name of the town in front of it. That way you get the following names: Gualala Hotel, Gualala Video, Gualala supermarket, Gualala Real Estate, Gualala Lions Club etc. etc. so you know you are in the right town ? Anyway, the campsite was very dog friendly, we got a bone for Shasta and a plastic bag for his poop. At the camp store they had Doggy Parking….which means, a wooden stick with a chain on it to tie your dog on to. We stayed here for a few days and made a couple hikes. Really an ideal place because we had electricity and water at our site, great ! Worked on the laptop and we were able to watch a movie on our dvd player, while eating fresh popcorn from
the store. Really a great place.
On our way to our next campsite, we had lunch in Mendocino. A very nice town but very tourist oriented, and it also appeared in the tv series Murder She Wrote.
We spend the night in Richardson Grove again, between the Redwoods. Two nights, nice and relaxed.
Ferndale was the next town on our list. It’s a very old town, founded in 1852. If you like architecture and details, this is the place to be. There are a lot of old houses, stores and hotels. All are well maintained, what makes it worth while visiting. The stores are small and cozy and full of stuff, too much to mention. There is a hat store, one that sells umbrellas in all kinds of shapes, an art gallery and a bigger store with all kinds of food. The last one was very nicely decorated. All wooden tables and cupboards filled with jars of jam and honey, and in between all kinds of old things like cans, silver ware, porcelain etc.
We drove back to Happy Camp where we will stay until July 17th. Close to home a little black bear crossed the road in front of
us, very cute, but l was still happy to be in the car though.
Next time about Happy Camp, part 2.
Love and until the next time,
Hubert and Willeke
As you see from the above, we do continue our journey of discovery and adventure. It is both easy and difficult at times but always going forward. We continue to enjoy each moment and are thankful each day for the opportunity to redefine our lives in a more meaningful and healthy way. The three of us grow together and care for each other (Willeke, myself, and Shasta). Stand by for the next posting from ?. Special thanks to Willekes dad, Jan, for his graciousness. Hubert
