The Jumping Rock @ Waimea Beach
my jump was not nearly as graceful July 8-9 A rare occasion that I sleep in till 10:30, but I must've needed it. My roommate Tiffany and I made plans to walk down to Bogarts for breakfast. They have the most delicious food! We shared the Michael's Scramble which was scrambled eggs with asparagus, sun dried tomato and feta cheese with potatoes and a bagel with tomato, sprouts, capers & cream cheese. Yummy! And we sat at the table talking and sipping coffee for over an hour. I really enjoy hanging out with her. I think if I were to stay longer, we'd become good friends.
Although we didn't finish and get back home till close to two, I was tired of letting perfectly good days slip by, so I hopped on a bus over to Manoa Falls. It's only about 15 minutes away and probably one of the most known waterfalls in the area. I think because it's such a short, easy hike most tourists choose this one. I loved the scenery on the way to the waterfall, but it was just too packed! The trail is not wide enough to pass by large groups, so I got stuck behind quite a few of them and
Manoa Falls
Not too much water flowing, but it was pretty their slow pace was killing me. I finally made it to the end, saw the waterfall, along with about 30 others all packed in tight into a small viewing area, then turned around and headed back out. This time, I got stuck in the middle of a pack of loud, obnoxious, high school age kids for at least half of the way down. I know...that really made me sound old, but seriously it was so annoying to listen to their screaming conversations and swearing like they were the only ones on the trail for miles. By the time I finally got by them, I ran the rest of the way down the muddy trail, splattering mud all down my legs and over my shoes, just to find some peace and quiet on the trail. Jeez...maybe I am getting old, but I don't think so.
Time for Wednesday night Niketown run, so I got back onto the bus and headed towards Waikiki. I haven't missed a Nike run yet...they're one of my favorite activities each week. I ran the 4.6 mile course tonight, chatted with a few local friends, then headed off towards home. Looking forward to some blogging, and
Boots & Kimo's Macadamia Nut Pancackes
Their famous sauce and the reason we went here early bedtime, I was standing in the bathroom brushing my teeth, back facing the sink, when a movement on the towels caught my attention. Cockroach!!! Argh! That's cockroach #3, which according to Tiffany is the least amount in this time period since she's been here.
I ran upstairs and found Mike at the ironing board. "Mike will you come kill the cockroach downstairs for me? I'm really, really scared of it. Please" "(Sigh)...I've got a date, can't you just drop a book on it?" he said. Mike sucks. What kind of man does that? Come on...seriously. By the time he agreed to come down and look, it was gone. So as you may have predicted, I spent the rest of the night upstairs, with my toothbrush in my back pocket, waiting for Tiffany or Bill to come home and make sure the coast was clear.
My friend Terry picked me up at nine the next morning to go on a hike. We chose the Maunawili Falls since Bill, Kira, and I never made it to the falls earlier in the week. This hike was gorgeous, and quiet. It's a 3 mile round trip to a great waterfall with
a swimming hole. There's also a cliff jump there, but it's super high up. I'm not sure I would've been able to do it.
After the hike, I took Terry to breakfast at Boots and Kimo's, the Kailua restaurant famous for its macadamia nut sauce and pancakes. As expected, there were plenty of people waiting outside at even at 12:00, and they did come out and take our order before ever seating us. I did like the pancakes, but I think they could've really used more sauce.
From there, Terry dropped me off at the bus stop and I caught a 2pm bus to the north shore. I never looked into the bus schedule, so to say that I was disappointed when it turned 4pm and I was still sitting on the bus, would be an understatement. What a long ride! I finally got off close to 4:30 at Sharks Cove. There was still sun, so I snorkeled for a little while. Wow! Shark's cove is a fantastic place to go snorkeling! I saw thousands of fish, some just as long as me!
Next, I walked down the street to Waimea Beach for the last of the
Manoa Falls Hike
Beautiful lush gardens sun and sunset. Sitting there on the sand, I was jealous of all the people jumping off of the big rock into the ocean. I wanted to do it too! There was a group of military boys lying close by on the beach and two of them that I was talking to climbed up the rock me. Once I stepped to the edge, I kind of freaked. It was like jumping from the height of two high dives! But everyone was doing it; it couldn't be that bad. After about 5 minutes of fear, I stepped to the edge, and without looking down first, jumped. Unlike the others, my jump was far from graceful. I must've turned sideways in the air because my thigh and ear crashed into the water first. I swallowed a gallon of salt water, felt pain, looked up and everyone on top was clapping for me. Wonderful. Not sure that I'll be jumping that one again....we'll see.
I hung out with the military boys for an hour, drank a beer, and tried to ignore the pain in my eardrum. Finally, I caught the 8:00 bus back towards Waikiki. I hate the long bus rides today!
I don't think I got home until 10:00...and by this point, I hadn't eaten anything but an apple since lunch with Terry, so I went to yucky Taco Bell for a grilled stuffed burrito. What a day!

Yikes!
You brave girl! There is no freaking way I would have jumped! I wouldn't have even considered it. I am really impressed. With your descriptions of food, I need no planning for the next trip nor a menu at the restaurants. The Michael's Scramble sounds delicous, but so do the pancakes though I really like heavy food for breakfast on a regular basis (except the Malted waffles with bruleed bananas and carmel sauce at Over Easy). I love the coconut syrup they have there. I made some Hawaiian Sangria this weekend and though of you. In fact, I am having a glass with my lunch. Rose wine, pineapple juice, guava nectar and I threw in some rum to make it a bit stronger. As a die hard red sangria girl, this one is pretty good. Jay will be in Denver for the next few days, so if you are up and want to talk, call. I am sure I will not sleep much. I now wish I was going as I found a couple yoga people on Twitter wh are in Denver and a distant cousin and his family are there. I could have met up with you mom and I would have been very busy. Another time. I'd really like to check Denver out. So when are you coming home? And I will follow that up with when are you going back? I don't even want to think about what is cming up in the next few weeks. I like this not working gig.
