Ola,

Wow ... what an amazing day in Buenos Aires.

Yesterday after making my last blog entry I was on my way to the Cemetry (to tour...not rest) as I thought that I had seen and properly appreciated all that Buenos Aires had in terms of architecture....boy was I wrong.

I was on my way back from San Telmo, and I stopped in the Museo Historico Nacional to just take in the art and the religious history (which was really interesting...especially the tapestry that was created for the alter after the church was nearly burnt down) when I met Jerome.

This dude is from Paris..but knows Buenos Aires like the back of his hand. So when he offered to give me a full tour of the ENTIRE city, I jumped at the chance immmediately.

And this was the amazing thing....we retraced the path I had taken earlier on in the day.....and he gave me a more insightful history of the city.

We walked from the Plaza del Congreso to the Plaza de Mayo.....which runs from end to end on the main drag...the Ave de Mayo.

Its so sad to walk around the Plaza del Mayo, because it is where the mothers of all the missing children demonstrated...asking the government to return their children who disappered during the military regime of argentina. The circular design around the square has designs of the female head scarfs worn by women displaying their lament.

A trully amazing building in Buenos Aires is the Palacio Barolo which is a sculptural adaptation of a poem by Dante...with the building being designed in three levels to signify heaven, hell and pugatory. Its trully an amazing site, but in a city like Buenos Aires, its one of hundreds of beautiful buildings.

In fact the whole of the Ave de Mayo is amazing, and you can just walk down the avenue.....which runs for kilometers....just starring up at the buildings.

It has the elegance of walking down a boulevard in Paris except that these buildings are really tall whilst most of the buildings in Paris are no more than two or three storeys high.

Today I have most of the day to wander around and visit all the sights that I missed out on yesterday and in a city like Buenos Aires thats easily done due to its massive dimensions.

The 9 de Julio Avenue (named after the independance of Argentina... and yes..I finally figured out what that national holiday was about!) takes forever to cross. You need to cross three traffic lights to get from one side to the other....I was told that it was about 110 meters across and the Avenue runs for about one kilometer! Must be the largest I´ve ever seen.¨

Tonight I leave on the late bus to Salta...at around 22h00. I think it takes more than 20 hours...so I´m in for a long ride. I´m edging closer towards the Andes...and after Salta its off to San Pedro de Attacama. Getting excited!

Will keep you guys updated once I get to Salta.

Caio!
