With the wifi in our room still not working, I went down to the hotel business centre to use the computer this morning. One person with a unit to rent near Wexford had contacted me. The unit would be available and the price was good so I emailed back to say we would take it and to please send further details.
We had breakfast at the hotel restaurant and afterwards, checked our email again. I hadn't heard back from the property owner yet, so I copied down the contact details and we packed and took the shuttle bus back to the airport.
At the airport, we quickly found our car rental company. Despite booking the car online and getting a final price, it turns out the insurance is not included in the online quote. Not only this, but the Republic of Ireland is blacklisted such that my credit card, which usually will cover the insurance, doesn't do so here. The end price for the rental is more than double the price I thought we would be paying. This is certainly not what we had planned for.
Since we have planned around having a car, we go ahead with
the rental and take their shuttle over to the car lot. The car is standard, which I drive but not Evy. As well, it is the first time I have driven standard on the left, so I am a bit apprehensive as to how this will work. As it turns out, it isn't too bad with the exception of a few stall outs at the start.
The GPS guides us towards Wexford and we are quickly on a good highway. On the way, Evy tries to call our rental person, but the number does not work. This could be a major problem as the phone is our only way of contacting him.
We continue to drive, hoping he will contact us, but he never does. Finally we see a sign for a tourism centre and pull over. This turns out to be the Irish Heritage Centre, but they have a pay phone and seem quite nice. Again though, the strange number we have does not work. We show the number to the people there, and they don't recognize the area code. To me it looks more like a North American number. We ask where we might find internet
and they direct us to the town of Wexford.
In Wexford, we find a place to park and Evy and I walk further into town to find this internet place. After asking around, we find we are at the wrong end of town and walk for about 10 minutes to find the place.
It has now been many hours since I emailed the owner, but when I check, there is still no answer. We use Skype to make a call and discover that the number is in North America where I get an answering machine message with the right name. I leave a message.
It is now getting on to 4 pm and we have no back up plan. We know roughly where this house is suppose to be, so we decide to head to Rosslare Harbour. Once here, we find a golf course and a road to the ocean. The houses look like the one that we have booked, but we have no idea which one it is. Up at the club house, the office has closed for the day and the restaurant is unable to give us any information.
I tried to call the
North American number that we have again, but just get the answering machine. We decide that we have to find a place as it is now 5 pm. After checking out a few bed and breakfasts, one of which wanted 120 euros for one night, we find that the Best Western, which has a view of the ocean, has a family room that included breakfast and so we check in there.
With our budget for Ireland somewhat strained, we decide to opt for take out for dinner. Fortunately there is a take out place quite close to the hotel. After a long and difficult day we settle in for the evening. Checking my email around 11 pm, I get a message from our rental person. It turns out he had the wrong dates for our visit and is in Hawaii meaning he was not awake to see our messages. He says the place will be available tomorrow and onwards and gives us his sister-in-law's phone number.

It is large family freindly B+B near the harbour. Not right by the sea but it has large garden and safe parking . the kids liked it and it has food drink near by and post office and supermarket so its handy if your a driving family holiday so you can get supplies. I foumd my self in a simaler situation the place we had booked was really not what we had expected and we didnt want to stay there its was a small house and took ages to find. Moyglarelodge.com is large purpose built accommodation, with good rooms and facilites like broadband and Tv room tvs in every room but a guest lounge. The lady there was very kind and welcoming. Id like to know who was trying to charge you that much.
