Happy Camp

Happy Camp
After Patrick’s Point we went to Hubert’s land close to Happy Camp. What a beautiful drive, it took us about 3 and a half hour to get there. But for two hours we drove through heavily forested mountains and here and there passing a small town. Very pretty and more important: nice and warm !
We put up our second tent, bigger than our traveling one, more room in there. Built up the kitchen and lounge area with a view of the valley which ends at the Klamath river. We do enjoy our life!
It is a nice hike to the river, climbing over rocks and passing ancient trees, and you can make your own trail. Shasta comes with us and always ends the same way: sitting in the river.
Happy Camp is a nice town, not to big and the people are friendly. There are a lot of creative and artistic people which makes the atmosphere very comfortable. A friend of Hubert, Todd plays drum and ukelele and all kinds of small instruments. On Friday evening they had a gathering in one of the Gallery’s in town, that’s where we met Todd.
We brought our drums and didgeridoo and played together with Todd, way cool ! Todd invited us to come and play with him the next day on a Library Fair, sure ! And an owner of a store asked us to come and play on the 4th of July !
Never thought that l could enjoy eating potatoes for breakfast, but you can get used to it haha….scrambled eggs, bacon and fried potatoes with ketchup, and of course coffee and orange juice. Not every day, most of the times we eat cereals with a banana and toast with jam. But once a week having potatoes for breakfast is actually really tasty.
We do laundry at the Laundromat and charge the laptop and phone in the meantime. Unbelievable, all six !! Of the dryers were in use. Right on time, after the first two were finished, a guy came in with a bunch of plastic bags in which he put the dried clothes. He was moving and that morning his dryer broke down. It appeared that he and his girlfriend had six kids, all under 7 years ! Good luck buddy, when they are all in puberty.
We stayed in Happy
Camp for more than a week, nice and relaxed. Next stop will be Cassini Ranch on the russian river and close to the coast.
Hasta luego and enjoy life.

Willeke and I are indeed enjoying our time together. From San Francisco to Happy Camp, we have been sharing our lives in the most adventurous and romantic way. Almost all that we see and experience together has led us to appreciate each other more deeply and lovingly. All of the things that Willeke writes about I have seen before, but not this way…not with these eyes. The great redwood trees, the rivers, and the ocean, the wildlife are all new to me again. Our adventure will continue with Reggae festivals and further camping experiences, until we return to Costa Rica and resume our lives there. I am a fortunate man.

In the forest
Birds are singing
Insects and butterflies
Buzzing
The wind
Brushes through the leaves
It is peaceful
In the forest
In the forest
Flowers are blooming
Pine needles and cones
Cover the earth
Trees
Reaching toward the sky
It is peaceful
In the
forest
In the forest
Ants find their way
Bears
Still hidden in the springtime
Meadows filled with water
Glimmering in the sunshine
It is peaceful
In the forest
In the forest
People
Made campgrounds
Cans and paper all over the place
Animals
Nowhere to be seen
It is no longer peaceful
