Hello all,
We hope everyone is well. We had a few days off work so went into Vancouver for some sightseeing and nightlife. The weather was perfect, mid to high 20's, no clouds and cooler nights.
We arrived late on wednesday, cos we had both been working bad hours, I was working for 5 in the morning and vince had been working til 3 in the morning, so we got in, checked into a hostel in the middle of town and went out for dinner and sightseeing. Vanocuver is really easy to get around, you can pretty much walk anywhere but if you get tired there are buses on every corner, a skytrain and ferries, a bit like sydney, but not a crowded and a bit smaller. Vancouver is prety much surrounded by water and is unbelievably clean and green, I imagine it is what they wanted the docklands to be like.
We went out for a great meal, just near our hostel, and had a few cocktails and then went to a backpackers bar across from our hostel where 8 out of 10 patrons were Aussies, which was a nice change because in Harrison people look at
you like you are a martian as soon as you open your mouth. It's amazing the amount of time we have had to write things down for people, because they don't understand what we are saying. The other day I was having a repetitive day and work, and commented that it felt like ground hog day, referring to the movie where the day just keeps repeating and the girls I was working with looked and me funny, saying that we weren't even close to February (the actual groundhog day, when they wait for a groundhog to signal whether the winter is over yet)
The second day we went for a walk to Stanley Park, a big park on the edge of town which is surrounded by water with heaps of boats and an Aquarium in the middle. We walked around to the totem poles and to the Aquarium and did some shopping on the way back. We found this really cool vintage clothing shop, hidden away on top of some other shops and spent a few hours there trying on some really cool old clothes, and before you think that I was dragging Vince around on a personal shopping
spree, it was his idea, and he bought way more than what I did. Then we found this custom t-shirt shop which let you print a design on to a t-shirt of your choice, so Vince got a picture of Rod Stewart with a lady in a leopard skin jump suit and I got a Freddy Mercury and a super cool hat.
The next day we went to the Granville Market, a food arts and crafts market, which was fantastic. The market is on the water, right next to an art and design university, so there were a lot of unique art pieces, one of a kind clothes, hats, jewelry, hammocks, furniture, shoes, everything. It was really great and the food was awesome, great delis, and heaps of fresh world food stores and groceries. It was so good, we went to the beach and then came back for dinner. We bought these great beanies with animals on them, i got an owl and I think vinces is a dog but we are not sure (pictures to come)
Anyway, thats all for now, speak to you soon
Love Vince and Cate
