We left Bundaberg and headed up to Rockhampton, which is the beef capital of Australia. We spent 5 nights in a little hostel run by Robby, lovely little woman. One night we headed down to the river to have a bbq, cheap snags and even cheaper goon. Crocs have been spotted in the river so we decided to throw down some sausages but unfortunately they did not take our bait. It's ok we were too far up for them to get us if one did happen to appear. Me and Jen went to see Wolverine one afternoon, which we both loved! Then we headed to the local park for a walk. There was a lovely waterfall so i thought i would go closer to the waters edge to get a better picture and then i saw it!! A snake was sunbathing on the grass and obviously as i got closer it moved into the water. I hadn't seen it until it started to move. It was probably more scared of me than i was of it. We found a great pub called the Great Western Hotel so we decided on the Friday night we would go to the rodeo. There were

some kids as young as 12 doing it and some of them were actually pretty good. It was better seeing the older cowboys doing it cos obviously the bulls were much bigger and they tended to stay on for longer. We had a great steak and a few beers then headed to the bus station to catch our overnight bus to Airlie Beach.

I hate overnight buses cos everyone reclines their seats and then i have nowhere to put my legs, so i never get any sleep. We arrived at Airlie Beach at 6am Saturday and found a hostel. Airlie Beach is a very small place, basically just one street with pubs, no complaints from us though! We had a lazy morning reading our books down at the beach. What do backpackers do when they are depressed about having no money and no job? We drink! Which means we are drinking away money that we don't even have. It makes us feel better at the time but then you are back to square 1!! Anyway, we had a great afternoon/night at Airlie Beach. The jugs of beer were flowing. We made some strange friends, namely Bob. We ended up in some nightclub called Mama Africas. I'm sure it was pretty good, i think i just danced all night, well if you can call it that. Next day as you can imagine i was feeling rather rough. I eventually got up at 5pm and went to the golden arches for my hangover cure, large Big Mac meal.

Next stop was Townsville. We thought we would stop off here cos there is meant to be loads of fruit picking work in the area. Every hostel that was phoned had the same answer, not for 2 weeks. We decided not to hang around there cos we would get bored and this is where the next adventure begins.......
