About 8 days ago, I did something I have not done since I've been here in Juneau -- I rode the Mount Roberts Tramway. To some, this is considered a horrible thing to do because it is supposively much better to hike up this gorgeous mountain. But given the fact that I am deathly afraid of bears and all of my time is consumed with working, I took the easy route and joined my roommie and her family on the Tram. We were pleasantly surprised to find that it doesn't go up as fast as it appears from the ground and when you get to the top, you can purchase pictures of yourself standing with Sarah Palin in front of her Governor's Mansion, perfectly photo-shopped so no one would ever now the truth besides you and Sarah Palin.

Although most of the trails were still covered in snow, the babies that were part of the Missouri/S.Carolina entourage I was traveling with were way excited to go up and down in the Tram. And this of course made me happy and excited to spend some time with a family, even though it was not my own. And I was pretty excited that they invited me along for the ride. Another exciting thing about up there were all of the awesome pictures you could take. The views were gorgeous from up there. We even got to visit Lady Baltimore, the Bald Eagle that got shot at and is now in rehabilitation. She now enjoys a small shelter with metal bars -- sad yes but I guess she needs her rest and she is partially blind in one eye making her return to nature almost impossible. The rest of our time up there was spent posing, playing with the babies, talking to people, and then freezing as the wind started to pick up. It was very fun though and I highly recommend it to anyone that wants a great photo opportunity.

Well, as fate would have it, two days later I got to go up on my orientation flight for work. Being an ERA employee, we get one paid orientation flight a year which we get paid for. I was lucky enough to land mine on a sunny day and my newly hired cohort Jessica got to go with me as we headed up with a couple from Florida and with a pilot named Shane that we all like pretty well. It was a gorgeous day and I think the pictures really speak for themselves as we enjoyed the sun, our short time away from base, and my first ride in helicopter, my first taste of glacier water while standing on a glacier, and got to take some awesome pictures. I am definitely loving my summer job! 😊
