Our "Castles trip" was very nice. We had a good weather and everything went as planned.
At 9.20 we hit the train to Helsingor, about 45 min from Copenhagen, the trip was partially along sea side. Then took a short walk to the castle, which we could see from the train station. There were two reasons we went to this place, first our own city is named after this city, and the famous Hamlet lived in this castle (not really). Every August on the courtyard there are performances of the famous play in all kind of versions including Japanise Traditional Theatre and a very modern one.
It is also called Kronborg Castle and it was build the late XVI c. and rebuild in in the beginnig of XVII by two danish Kings, as a residence and it had also strategic purpose. This particular place in the inland has the narrower passage between Denmark and Sweden.
We took two english tours of casements and of the the some rooms of the castle, both very interesting with some interesting info about history. The casement tour took place in a very dim lights, the way it used to be. The tour guide described the
live of the soldiers. Ania was shocked when she learned that they ate herrings for breackfast, lunch and dinner (without any fancy seasoning), drunk a lot of beer, and did not have toilets. She said "imagine the smell!".
About one o'clock we took the train to Hillerod where was another reneisance castle build by the same kings Frederik II and Christian IV, this one was very picturesque with beautifull gardens and very interesting interiors with more rich baroc style decorations. There were too many rooms to visit and we did not have any guide to explain us what we look at, besides some mostly boring written info in some of the rooms. It was worth to visit anyway. When we were walking back to the station, Ania declared "no more walking for me!". So the next day we took it easy it is a day we leave for Sweden.

Hi!!
I have so enjoyed reading your travel blog and have loved all the pictures. You both look like your having a wonderful time, despite the rain!! All is well here at school, were winding down. Know that you are missed here at school Anna but the experiences you are having with your mom are priceless. I look forward to hearing all about it when you get home.
