The Panhandle of Florida’s West coast, the forgotten coast

We decided to bike today. The morning was cool so we biked out of the park some 4.8 miles and then into the town of St. George. It was sunny and a great day to bike. We stopped at some real estate offices to check on all the signs we saw. We discovered most of the signs were for rentals and the other were investments, an ocean front lot goes for one million, so much for our thoughts of getting a little place on the beach. We can’t complain the state park will always be there, I hope. Our trip to the end of the island ran into a private gated community, bikers not welcome. Tish, tish, since the beaches are all public, we parked out bikes and walked the rest of the way on the lovely beach. It seems the island was cut, in 1955, so the shrimp boats could come through.
With this in mind, as we biked back, we stopped at a roadside vender selling shrimp. We purchased a pound of jumbo shrimp for $7.00, for dinner (really jumbo).
On our ride back we were bucking head winds, I would say 40 plus miles per hour. It was a little tough going, but of course we did fine.
Back at the campground Bob worked on the computer and I walked down to the beach. I have this fascination about the ocean, I just love it.
Our shrimp dinner was outstanding, a little seasoned rice, a nice salad and some wine! This is just so much fun, I can’t stand it.

Ray and I have been to St. George Beach and the Panhandle several times. I love it. Biking along the waterway is great. - Martha
