Hi all
We had a pretty smooth flight but no sleep and made it safely to LA and got through the admin stuff pretty well at the airport. We cabbed to the Motorhome place and had to sort a few issues there before we were on our way. Glad I knew what I had booked and paid for because they didn’t seem to.
Driving out of LA was a bit challenging, the GPS was flat and wasn’t charging, the motorhome is kind of big with side mirrors that stick way out and of course I had to drive on the wrong side of the road and sit on the wrong side of the vehicle.
Corinne did well with the paper map we had and we navigated successfully to Vegas 5hrs later. We eventually found our RV park I booked and we checked out the casino complex where we were staying. Pretty big and this was well out of THE STRIP area.
36 hours after waking up we went to sleep.
Next evening came quickly and we caught a shuttle into THE STRIP. After 4hrs of walking we still hadn’t covered all the major places, walking is
slow going due to the crowds and the way the footpaths channel you into casinos when you cross the roads. The Casinos are huge and over the top but basically all offer the same thing in the gaming areas.
Was very warm in Vegas 31 degrees at 11.30pm!
From Vegas we headed east towards the Grand Canyon. First stop was at Hoover Dam. Quite impressive, we had to have a security check before we could drive along the dam wall. They check the storage areas and inside the RV. They are basically looking for large volumes of explosives in case someone tries to take out the dam wall. They are currently building a bridge over the canyon to allow the traffic to flow that way instead of along the dam wall.
At the Grand Canyon we stayed in the campground which is pleasant. The Canyon itself is awesome. There are a lot of points along the rim that are accessible which gives you different views. We also did a few hours hike down into the canyon along the South Kaibab trail which was very worthwhile. Corinne had a close encounter with a friendly squirrel along the trail.
It is very difficult to convey the size of the canyon with photos. Really have to be there to get a feel for it and even then you can only ever see a small part of it. Unfortunately smog (all the way from LA and Mexico) cuts the visibility down considerably, winter is apparently the best time for clean air.
After two days at the Canyon we headed east to Monument Valley. This is classic Indian country, with red rock formations. We did a drive on Navajo lands and the scenery is spectacular.
Today we headed back northwest to Page. This arvo we are going to Horseshoe Bend and tomorrow we will do Antelope Canyon. We are now in Wahweap RV park just out of Page Arizona. I’d say its 40 degrees at the moment at 3pm.
Corinne has just arrived back at the van and announced she has just walked to Utah and back. (Luckily we are right near the border).
She is now off for a swim in Lake Powell while I do the blog entry she has been promising everyone.
Till next time
Corinne and Brett

I'm having the best time
Yep, I'm having the best time here back at Melbourne. I can see all the way to the dandenong ranges from my desk (I'll post pics soon), and if I walk around to the lunch room I get a wonderful sprawling view of Port Philip Bay. Sometimes large metal things float through around, I'm still trying to arrange a closer look but disctractions back at the desk keep me occupied. Well I'll write more once I have arranged some more free time!! xx
