Day 21 - Box Hill North to Lakes Entrance. 3 hrs 58 minutes - 319 kms incl diesel stop!
First things first, a huge HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our niece Gabrielle - have a lovely day!
We both slept really well last night despite us finding a great episode of Only Fools & Horses on fox-tel when we climbed into bed! Thank goodness for TVs with a sleep button!
We were up by 8am and into the normal routine of clearing up from the night before! The girls are already playing in the family room and Grant is asleep on the couch - all is good! It’s not long before Anna comes in and tells us off for clearing up but we like to do our bit to help. We finish off loading stuff into the caravan and car, it’s amazing how much storage space we have in there which is really good. Its’ no where near full!
Yesterday we bought the girls a Beanie Kid each, Cherie (Charlotte’s) and Bella (Amy’s) are coming around Australia with us and we’ll story book their adventures for the girls as we go! The girls bought Cherie & Bella out to Sweetie Pie
(their name for our set up!) and introduced them to Mousie (pressie from Mum K!) and they seemed to get on well (phew!) so the girls tucked them in for the journey and kissed them goodbye. All very lovely.
There was time for one last walk with Henry and Anna which was very relaxing and gave me time to think of anything left to do and Darryl time to stay home and watch the footy with Grant!
Walked, shower, dressed and ready to go! We’ve hitched up, checked the lights, checked we’ve packed everything, now it’s just a matter of waving our lovely family goodbye for the next 6 weeks til we come back for Grant’s 40th party.
Thanks for having us guys, we love it and we’ve had so much fun. We’ll miss you loads but the 6 weeks will fly by and it will be like we’ve never been away!!!
So that was it, we were on our way. The km’s on the car when we left were 166’305 and we’ve got a journey of about 250 km’s to do which should take around 4 hours. We didn’t leave til 1pm but the campsite is open til 7pm
so we should make it. The skies get brighter and brighter as we tow nearer to Lakes Entrance. We’re already getting waves from other caravan drivers and we’ve noted the huge amount of dirty 4WDs returning from their weekend activities! We stop and fill up with diesel when we hit half a tank, the cost is $1.20 per litre so a bit up the far end of the range that we’ve seen which started at $1.12 near to Box Hill up to $1.21 the closer to Lakes Entrance we get.
And there it is, a fantastic view high over Lakes Entrance! We think that was from Jemmy’s Point so that’s somewhere we can have a walk to tomorrow.
We’ve booked into a Big 4 caravan park tonight, the Waters Edge Holiday Park. I gave them a quick ring before we left to check there was going to be space for us so on arrival I jump in to the reception to book in. We have pitch 15 for 2 nights and we’re given the code to the shower block … oooohhhhhh, exciting!
So, this is our first attempt at caravanning…ever! We’re chuffed with how straight forward it is though. 1.
Reverse caravan on to site. 2. Un-hitch caravan from car 3. Lower the caravan legs. 4. Attach the power lead. 5. Crack open the beer!!
We enjoyed our basic tea of meat pie, beans and jacket spud!! No expense spared!! We do the washing up in the camp kitchen as we do have water but it’s nice to mingle in the kitchens to see who’s about. However, it’s the smallest camp kitchen in the world but a lovely couple do come in so we have a chat and swap plans. They’re on a month’s trip and they’re heading up to Nowra so there’s every chance that our paths will cross again!
We’ve decided that we’re staying here for 2 nights just to ease us in gently and to get us used to our new way of life!
So, from both of us in Sweetie Pie, night night!
