Well this is the start of the blog of mine and Lucy’s Travels around Asia!
The first stop on this odyssey around South East Asia was Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. It was an interesting journey here to say the least, it started by flying with Air Asia X from London Stanstead to Kuala Lumpur. The flight started off well by leaving on time and the weather was even sunny, which is a shock for England. From there it all went downhill really, I think we managed to hit every single bit of turbulence between the UK and Malaysia including going right through the middle of a Lightening storm! Lets just say Lucy and I weren’t best impressed with this. After landing safely in Malaysia at around 5am local time, we managed to get through immigration and baggage reclaim in about 40minutes which by my usual standards is a personal best!
At this point we thought things were looking up for us, until we were walking through nothing to declare and what was waiting for us….. Only a huge spider which decided to hang around and wait for Lucy to walk past, much to her delight! NOT!! All this after being
informed by Mark and Ellie that the only ones they had seen in their entire jaunt around SE Asia were in Cambodia when they were being served up deep fried!
The next obstacle we had to overcome was getting the 75km from KLIA to China town, as the buses and trains weren’t going to be running for another hour or so we decided that we just needed to get to our hotel and get some sleep so we found the nearest taxi we could see and negotiated a fair price. It must have been about 5minutes into the journey when the Taxi driver cranked up a Phil Collins CD just for Lucy’s benefit that we realised this was going to be our next challenge. Our taxi driver turned out to be the next F1 superstar to come out of Asia and proceeded to take every racing line going at about 175km per hour and almost managing to get us squashed underneath a bloody bus!! After we finally managed to get to our hotel we had a well deserved Nap before we started having an explore!
Once we had finally got up from our nap we went for a
wander around KL and took in a few sites and some much anticipated shopping for Lucy! Needless to say she didn’t disappoint snapping up a few bargains on our first few hours of being in and around the city! (oh and I may have bought a few bits too!) After a hard few hours walking around we decided to have a wander back to the hotel and have a rest for a bit as we had only had a few hours sleep the previous day and on the flight, on our way back to our hotel we managed to bump into Chris, who was a guy I knew from uni! It really is a small world! Before we met Chris for drinks at the favoured watering hole for backpackers which is the Reggae Bar in china town, I introduced Lucy to the delightful experience which is street food (chicken Satay to be precise, 12 pieces, some steamed rice and a bottle of water for the extortionate price of 10RM (£2)!) God I love Asian prices!
In the evening we met Chris for a few games of pool and some cheap drinks and then called it a day!
Today we
decided to try our hands at making our very own Batik Paintings, which were a bargain at 15RM each (about £3)! And then we went and did a bit more sight seeing which included the Petronas Towers and the Aquarium and some more up market shops, Unfortunately everything was out of our price range and most of the shop workers looked pretty nervous about letting a couple of scruff bags into their shops to merely window shop at their expensive goods!
We are currently sitting in the reggae bar having a relaxing beer and using free Wifi which cant be too bad! Tomorrow we are up early to get the bus to Pulau Tioman so that I can FINALLY get my diving Fix and Lucy is going to learn as well, oh and we might even top our tans whilst we are there!
Oh it’s a hard life………
Take it easy!
Andy and Lucy
xx 😊
(just a small side note:- The service of Air Asia X was actually suprisingly good, the food was ok, the entertainment was well worth the £6 we paid as it kept us both amused for at least 10 hours out
of the 12 hour flight and the legroom was better than most economy flights!)
