Caroline has been working hard and peddling to work each day and I've even done a few days work over the last couple of weeks. We've been spending some time working out the best ways to spend the cash - first stop looks like a trip to Alice Springs and a tour of Uluru / some other bits and bobs in the desert.

Having decided that we would like to go skiing at some point (probably the cross country variety) we have been looking around for cheap ski gear. Last weekend we headed out with our bikes (on the train) to see a nice lady in a suburb called Seaford. She had every kind of second hand junk you can imagine stuffed into her bungalow...we came out with two jackets, hats and a clock radio...though I was tempted by the array of old-style telephones! Having loaded up we headed to the beach which she had told us was 'the best in Melbourne'...which turned out to be pretty accurate (see the photos). It was a beautiful sunny day so we paddled about a bit then peddled back home...well to another train which took us home.

On the Sunday we went to the MCG (forgot the camera so pics will have to wait until next time). We watched a game of Aussie rules - Hawthorn (my adopted team!) Vs Carlton...a Melbourne derby - though most AFL games are since they invented the game here and everyone else seems to think it's a bit silly. The stadium is spectacular, we were amazed that they had unallocated seating for a crowd of 70,000...though I guess that leaves you with 30,000 + spare seats to choose from! The game was good, a very close finish with Carlton missing a last ditch kick at goal which would have ensured an unlikely victory.

This weekend we headed to The Dandenongs (some pretty hills with lots of trees) with the YHA bushwalking lot. It was the second walk we've been on and much more up and down than the first. It was a really good, especially the beer / cream tea afterwards and some very nice company. Aching now though!

Hope all's well back home - write us a message if you have any news / comments / insults or just want to say hi!
