After Abu Simbel we returned to Aswan and boarded our corresponding boats. Some people opted for the more expensive and all mod-cons cruise, whilst the rest of us chose the more real and of course more fun Felucca.
A Felucca is a traditional wooden sailboat used in the protected waters of the Mediterranean, Red Sea and the Nile and has either one or two sails. It can typically hold up to ten passengers and three crew members.

We sailed up the Nile for the rest of the afternoon, going to and fro from either side of the Nile, catching the wind and letting it push us. Any person wanting the loo had to let the captain know fifteen minutes in advance so they could have time to get to the shore and moor up...this was a 'natural trip', causing much amusement in the group.

For supper we moored up along the river bank and sat on the sands drinking and talking, oh this is the life! It was so peaceful, just to be away from materialistic things and the stresses of modern day living. I can't tell you how wonderful it was to fall asleep to the gentle sounds of waves lapping the banks and to wake when the sun started to rise filling the day with new light and a new promise.
The following day we set off again, sweeping the water, backwards and forth. I spent my time lying down, staring out into the distance, letting the wind clear my soul. Honestly, that is what it did do, I have not felt so at peace and so happy for a very long time. Pure bliss.
For the night we moored up again, swam in the nile and had supper on board. Towards the later evening the crew members started up a fire and played jambos, triangles and tamberines. The sound that came from them had so much energy, it sounded so good! They sang and we danced, round and around the fire.

The following day we had to stay on the shore for a while because the winds were so strong. I think it must have been about 1 'o clock when we set off, spray ricocheting of the bow and onto the sunbathers 😊
Another few hours and we had to leave the real life, back to the falseness of modern day society. We were picked up and we drove to Luxor.
