Dressed up for the day
Tigist likes the skirt! Tacoma seems so far away right now. Katrinka, Tigist and I have enjoyed our last full day in Addis Ababa. We accomplished quite a bit for having a relatively simple day.
We had a bit of a late start. Our little princess decided that she would wake up at about 2am and call it a night of sleep. Nothing would really console her; I took the first shift. We tried looking out the window and pointing at things. That is usually good for about 30 minutes before something captures her attention. An hour later, I think her eyes were actually open wider than they were when she first awoke. We tried looking at books, stacking blocks, even television. Nothing. Katrinka took the second shift. Ultimately, we all awoke with Tigist comfortably nuzzled between Katrinka and me in the big bed. Apparently nothing soothes more than a loving mother. Even when we tried to wake up (officially), Tigist went straight back to Katrinka, flopping on top of her to find her comfy spot. It was nice for Tigist and me, but I think Katrinka bore the brunt of the uncomfortable accommodations.
Breakfast took us back into routine. Copious quantities of
Playing in the grassy garden
Exploring the flowers, trees and soft grass. Gerbers and rice cereal tied little Tigist over until we all toddled down to buffet breakfast and Tig's round two. Did I mention in the previous postings just how much that kid can pack into her tiny belly? Man.
After breakfast, we took a romp in the gardens and explored the comfy grass and flowers.
Nap time was a breeze. Tigist was still a bit sleepy from her lack of the night's sleep, so she slept for a good hour and a half. Frankly, so did we. Afternoon was spent souvenir shopping and playing in the room. We've managed to learn 'tea party' with stacking blocks, toss with the soft plushy ball, and the ever popular hide the bathtub frog in the stacking blocks. I'm working on the high-five. so far, not much interest (but that will change, eventually).
Dinner was a combination of chicken nuggets and fries poolside (and attacked by birds...we have the video to prove it). Tigist was a good sport about it, though. We followed adult dinner with another try at the 'Children's Adventure Land' (the hotels kiddie playground). Still not so fun. So, we moseyed up to the room for Tig's dinner of
baby food and a new rice/banana cereal. She REALLY likes her cereal. Even claps the moment she sees the signature red feeding bowl. Sleeping time is becoming the big ordeal. As I write this, Tigist should be finishing her second tantrum round. The first pretty much tuckered her out, so I thought I'd break away as Katrinka tried to soothe her into her night's sleep. Basically, we are hoping this does not foretell the final hurdle of our Ethiopian adventure: the flight home.
Friday (tomorrow) is our final day in Addis. Our plan is to get to the airport very early, eat, spend our remaining birr at the airport, and hope that the excitement of the airport hustle and bustle manages to wipe out Tigist long enough to get airborne. I'll try to squeeze in one more posting before we check out. My intention (now that we have all of Tigist's paperwork from court) is to travel to the part of the city in which she was abandoned in hopes of capturing some pictures and understanding the place as much as I can absorb, so when our little princess has questions later in life, we can answer them as
Not ready for a nap
But fully secured with her toys, books and sippy cup (Tigist's security blanket-of-sorts) best as we possibly can!

This too shall pass
Finding one comfy spot is certainly a sign of true bonding and looks like "dino nuggets" need to be added to the shopping list. She'll probably do great on the flight, and remember with a magic marker, pen or crayons you can make great puppets out of the barf bags. Love to you all.
