Could this be the cutest dog in Oz?!
Day 3 - Now what you have to remember is that this is the calm before the storm, so to speak! Hence the 'quiet publish' approach to the blogs over the next couple of days!
Today has been a chill-ax day of unpacking! Not very exciting to you guys I wouldn't have thought but it's been amusing for us as the realisation sneaks home in terms of 'why the heck did I pack that' and 'where are all my T-shirts'?! All of Darryl's clothing seems to be here but shock, horror Sarah might have to go shopping as she doesn't seem to have brought much! Well, well, how did that happen?!
It's been quite a laugh untangling all the electrical stuff we've brought! Charger for this, charger for that, mouse for this, mouse for that, batteries for this, that, and goodness knows what else! Did I overlook the fact that batteries may well be obtainable in Australia?
Anyway, we've settled in to the change of time zone easily enough. Our approach in previous years has been to rock up first thing in the morning, stay up all day, party all night and then fall into bed around 4am!! It works in its own sweet way but this time we'd chosen the less 'hardcore' approach of arriving at night followed by almost immediate sleeping! Needless to say we're not nearly as awake as usual so the party hard routine will be the one we adopt next time!
We've made excellent friends with Henry the cute dog, in-fact we've walked him twice! He is the cutest, cuddliest, pretend teddy bear in the world! The girls, Charlotte and Amy, absolutely adore him and he is very funny! He has a favourite toy - a parrot - which is preferable to any sort of ball apparently!
Other than that, we had home made Pumpkin Soup for lunch which we're now going to cook again when we're on our travels - it was that nice! Then Darryl took over the gentleman duty of BBQ'ing dinner for tonight as Grant is at work. Roast lamb was enjoyed by all .... apart from Grant who is still at work (late shift - a policeman's job is never done!)
Tomorrow the search for the 4WD begins to heat up. I've trawled dozens of possibilities tonight - Toyota Landcruisers and Nissan Patrols looking top favs at the moment in terms of our requirements which are 4WD, big fuel tanks, warranties, dual fuel, multi terrain capability and a CD player! We're going to have a drive out to see what we can find and then send Anna in to wheel n deal!
Darryl has had a great time with the girls this evening, Charlotte has been practicing her juggling. We are up to 13 catches with opposing hands at the moment (with 2 balls) and Amy has hit the 3rd ball somewhere on Darryl at least 50 times despite him trying to hide behind a cushion! They went to bed worn out!
We're going to settle down and watch Slumdog Millionaire for tonight’s entertainment....although I suspect I will get distracted and start looking at campsites etc etc!
Fingers crossed that we get the deal of the century tomorrow with some sort of 4WD.
Thanks for all the messages again, it's great to hear from everyone and please don't take offence if we don't send you a personal message back ... we will do very soon.
Take care
Dar & Sar
