Edit Blog Post

welcome to croatia, and welcome to another exciting run of the official most boring blog on the interweb! winner! fun times ahead, as i follow my tradition of having an awesome first week, a difficult second week, a great third week and then probably home early! marvel at my lack of awareness that sarcasm and the internet do not work! be amazed at my confusion at the keyboards! enough of this drivel.

i am currently in the lovely little croatian coastal town of zadar, and by gum its raining. lovely! arrived here this past wednesday on another of ryanairs glorious cheap flights. why are airlines always so eager to say that there is yet another on time flight? surely they should be on time. you dont get trains claiming to have another on time train. although i guess thats because trains are rarely on time? i dont know. i do wish people wouldnt clap either, as i have whinged about many times before. enough whinging! so yes, arrived at airport, taxi to bus station, met iva the awesome couchsurfer, back to hers, coffee sleep. they have the smallest dog i have ever seen! its ludicrous, and it seems to quite like me. very strange. we had a few nice discussions, and the million dollar question was brought up. can a siamese twin ever really be described as a single mother?

spent yesterday day in zadar town centre, which is all very quiet and pretty. it has the worlds only sea organ as far as i know, and it is fantastic. its a collection of underground pipes right on the seas edge, which when combined with the waves create a haunting organ esque sound. there were some really enchanting melodies coming from it yesterday, i must have spent at least an hour sitting by it. fabulous. went to iva's housemate ivanna's college to watch a documentary about a massacre in mexico in the 1960's, which was intense. the students at zadar university are currently on strike in protest against fees, and the strike seems to be working! any classes that are attempted to be put on by tutors are stopped, and some of the tutors are supporting it and putting on lectures of their own outside the college. its all very heartening, and i hope it works better for them than it did for the students in mexico city. ouch.

as per usual, the first real night was spent drinking and dancing. me, iva and a lot of her friends went to see a macedonian band by the name of ezerki, who played their entire set in 7/8. i was completely blown away! was gypsy esque music with a 13 voice choir, astounding stuff. there were also some kids right at the front getting overly excited, i swear one of them was dancing like a crab at one point, very funny. they also had an impromptu bridge competition! yes, by bridge i mean the old gymnastic move, its amazing how children seem to always think it can be used as a dance move. learn kids! we all went for drinks afterwards, which led to dancing! yes thats right, me dancing. like a goon to pato banton! baby come back is a tune if ever i heard one. met some really fantastic people last night, one of iva's friends tanya in particular, she was hilarious. i've never seen anyone get so nervous before going into a concert. lots of dancing, walked home in the rain, my 2 pound primark green shoes are no longer green. sad sad times.

and thats pretty much everything up to date. i'm trying hard to listen to every single album on my ipod on shuffle, it started with mudvayne's first album and it was so awesome i had to listen to it again afterwards, so good work. have started again though, and i totally forgot how good codeine were. if you like slint, you should adore codeine. anyway, enough blah blah, im gonna sort out accomodation tomorrow. im heading to split. expect terrible puns.
