Bali: 6th - 14th April 2009

We are just at the end of an amazing Balinese holiday. Our trip kicked off with a stay at a fantastic villa in Canggu with our very good friends Liz, Ali, Nicola and Ben. There we have learned to become professional food conoisseurs of local cuisine.

While not lazing around the villa's pool, Doug was able to fly twice off the southern tip of Bali. He also enticed friends Ben, Howel and Yu Jong to take tandem flights with the local instructor, Ketut. They flew along the cliffs above the beach in smooth, coastal breezes and enjoyed the view.

We have likewise become quite accomplished in celebrating many memorable occassions. Ben just had his 40th bday which we celebrated at La Lucciola. We all had a good laugh with how many times the staff sang happy birthday to the other guests. We were 5th of the night.

The next night we were able to meet up with Hesh, Andy and a bunch of their friends who had flown in for the wedding. It was great to finally put names to faces of family and friends we had heard so much about, but hadn't yet met.

A few days later we all headed up to Ubud to start all the wedding festivities. The Alila Resort is a lovely resort nestled in the hills, and I couldn't have imagined a more ideal and beautiful setting for Hesh and Andy to say their vows. The staff here has been terrific in dealing with all the preparations, including a full house of wedding guests requests. The wedding itself was one of the best we've ever attended. The speeches were both heartwarming and funny -- the net result of years of life and love. The guests also enjoyed the great food and company. But Heshin, in her beautiful wedding dress and Traditional Korean dress, stole the show as the beauty of the evening.

The day after all the festivities, we joined Ben and Nicola for some whitewater rafting. There's no better way to beat the heat, and get in a workout while enjoying the company of good friends.

Next stop: Dubai

the first to comment! how could i possibly resist? Bali looks as Bali does - great especially the private pool. Doug, seriously, you need to work on the TAN! (those white things dangling off the glider could scare the wildlife). Good to see you're having fun (and still talking). From (not so fun) 1 Austin road...
