Hey Folks!
So here goes for Malaysia Part 2!
We had rain but more in the form of tropical storms which we did not mind that much...but i seriously think we have a black cloud over our heads permantely! So we arrived in The Cameron Highlands. Thats an old English Hill station, so the first thing we noticed was the major temperature drop. But it was welcomed.
The fleeces came in handy! I knew they would...I even slept in it! We stayed at a place called Fathers Guest House which was really nice and homely. Met some amazing people.
Get this for a small world. We met a couple called Matt and Laura and we were just having a general chit chat as you do, and it turned out Laura had just finished studying physiotherapy. Well her best mate from home is also someone i studied with at uni and who i grew close to in the final year...the lovely and adorable Sophie! My world shrank in two seconds. We did a one day tour which took us around all the tea plantations and strawberry farms. Pretty boring to be honest, but we also went to a butterfly farm
Super Mama holding a Scorpion!!!
Nishil and Neal, Who is the bravest Mama in the world!!! This one is for you munchkins! xxx which sounds gay but was really good. Thousands of butterflies just flapping around landing on you. But the real highlight of this place was all the insects and snakes they had. And guess what, yours truely held a SCORPION! I mean check me out. I pee'd a little but I still did it.
I crapped myself beyond senseless...this beetle was like the size of Jit's hand (BIG) and had three horns coming out of it...i mean come of it. Oh and then the boy had to hold it! That evening Jit finally got a drinking buddy in the form of our new mates Matt and Laura, and ended up having a large night with those guys, and we all know what Jit's drunken nights are like Had a few tiger beers and this beer called Luxus - 10%!,(MISSING) and I tell you what this stuff was like paint stripper but after a few taste like gold dust
everything is like gold duct after 10%!d(MISSING)rinks down your throat!Well lets just say the next morning I wasnt feeling too great, so we ended up just bumming around which was a nice change.
Family and friends...what JIt is meaning to write is he had a hangover!
The wierdest thing about this place is the High tea and scones. Every place does it...so English, but I tell you what, the scones was yum yum yummy.
They were hot, freshly cooked, with home-grown strawberry jam and cream...Waitrose eat your heart out! Dad you would of loved them. We then packed up and said goodbye to this chilled out place...our next stop, Penang - Georgetown.
After a short bus journey (6 hours - yes thats seriously short to us now) and a really short ferry (20 mins) we arrived in Georgetown.
The ferry was well cheap...50p! We found this place a little boring. There isnt much to do unless your really into history, so Kay and I wondered around for a day and headed up to Penang Hill. Its 850m above sea level and gives you perfect views of Georgetown. We found a great Chinese Market...Kay you tell em!
This was great Jit and I have found a new way to bargain. We take a step and the price goes down and when we honestly don't want something the price goes down too. Check this out...
Jit finds a decent pair of swimming shorts and says to me he likes them.
Lady: RM30
Jit: too much
Lady: You give me best pwice
Jit: RM5
Lady: (laughs) NO...cannot do
We take one step
Lady: RM25
Second step
Lady: RM20
Third step
Lady: RM10
Jit: RM5
Lady: OK!
The exact same thing happened...no joke every step we took the price got lower without us even saying a price or a word. We got a long dress for RM12 that originally started at RM59!!! Parents please be very proud of us, you have taught us well.
We ended up going up the hill at 6 PM as it was mad busy due to it being a public holiday the day we went.
not that i am complaining but it was roasting as well...so hot you guys just cannot imagine! But this turned out to be perfect timing. We took this great looking train/tram sort of thing up and got to the top just as the sun was setting. You then started seeing all the lights turn on down below, and it actually was really nice. We were going to venture further up until Kay decided to look up and screamed.
I looked up and I screamed. Between all the power lines maybe 10 feet above us were hundreds of spiders. Ok maybe not that many but who knows, we didnt hang around long enough to count.
Ok once agina let me set the record straight. I looked up in the directions of these power lines not to look at them but to see what was beyond them...a temple. Now you see i was sightseeing and minding my own business and it just happened to be that these f-in great big inhumane things were in the same sightline. These things were huge. At least plate sized. And chunky. Holding a scorpion is one thing, but having these #$&*# hanging around above us was something else, so we decided to call it a day and leave this nice place.
Next stop, Langkawi. Malaysia's "Crown Jewel". Island paradise.....well yes and no. Its a stunning place. Swooping beaches, hot weather, warm sea, but then its ridiculously over priced. I mean whoa. Not as bad as Singapore mind you, but when you've been travelling for a few weeks and you hit an expensive spot, it does hurt a little. We were used to spending
maybe 30RM on food, here we were racking up 100's!
We got a beach hut, so in the morning we stepped out onto silky soft warm sand, but don't let the cliche fool you. The hut was an absolute shite hole. Bugs, and mossies everywhere.
And as a departing gift on the last morning of being in our shack an un-normally sized cochroach decided to grace us with its presence in our bathroom. Towel, DEET and Jit's stamping feet equalled a very dead cochroach...that shows that bugger! Never again. Kay managed to count 30 something bites on one arm and then she gave up. Apart from that Langkawi was nice, but not really my cup of tea. Next stop, Thailand. I cant believe we have been through two countries already, but we have seen and done so much...its been an amazing journey so far.
So until Next time - the-the-the thats all folks!
