Museo de Arte Tigre
Out of the side of the boat. This was a beautiful building. Today me and some of the people from the class(Chris, Heather, Caitlin, Katrina, Bonnie and Julia) took the train up to Tigre. It's about an hour outside of downtown B.A. and was quite beautiful. We met at the train station at 10:00 of which I'm including some pictures. I walked and on the way found different statues made from recycled stuff that were pretty cool. Once I met everyone the line for tickets went literally out the doors of the train station. We got tickets for a whole 2,70 pesos which is cheaper then a bottle of water. We grabbed some of the seats by the door which were higher in part because they looked interesting and in part because the train was pretty full. We realized quickly that you simply slide out of the seats and they weren't much better then standing. The train ride was an experience. People are allowed to peddle whatever they want. Socks and scissors were two of the odder things that people walked up and down the train yelling about.
At Tigre we walked around through the flea markets for a while before sitting down to eat at a restaurant on the river. It was
a beautiful spot, but was directly across from a theme park which we plan on attending at a later date. This was nice to see, but we had to talk over the people screaming. After lunch we walked along the river and bought tickets for a boat tour. Tigre is the city built on the edge of a river and has many surrounding islands. The boat tour took us through these islands. Doing the boat trip after lunch may have been bad timing, because the rocking of the boat put us to sleep.
The locals like these boat trips though. Often when passing houses kids would perform by jumping or diving into the water. It was pretty interesting. Afterwords we found some ice cream and something to drink and sat along the side of the river until it was time to head home. Otherwise, not much was of note during the week. I just did a lot of stuff with the school. Other notes though we were called gringos in Tigre for the first time. I ate a el cuartito or the little room which was suggested by one of my students named Harry. Harry is an older gentleman who
swore by this place and told me I had to get the napolitana pizza. I did and realized once I was inside the place that I recognized it. If any of you watch Anthony Bourdain No Reservations- it is the place that he eats empanadas at in Argentina. Also updating the graffiti one again.
