Hello from La Joya!

I've been here since Friday evening and still can't get over how BEAUTIFUL this place is!

The medical/construction team arrived Sunday night and we've had two days of clinics and work. The medical team splits into two groups each day - one stays in La Joya at the clinic here and the other travels up into the mountains to the remote villages. Monday I went up to the mountain and today I stayed in La Joya. The doctors, nurses, and dentists are helping a lot of people physically as well as spiritually. Today the nurse I was translating for had a consultation with a lady who has been married for eight years and she and her husband haven't been able to have a baby. There's not much we can do medically for her, but we did take a moment to pray with her for this. That was special. The team from the mountain reported that several people received Christ today also. 😊

Yesterday being in the mountain village touched me deeply. I'd been there before, about a year and a half ago while I was living in Honduras. But going back after living in the states for the past six months struck me a lot harder this time. OUCH! For so many of us we can't even begin to image the lives of these people. For many it's even too hard simply to walk through the village and see the way they live. Mud brick houses, no clean water (if there's any water at all), never any new clothes or shoes, beans and tortillas for every meal ... And the point isn't to go away from it feeling guilty for what I have, but rather to seach my heart, open it up and say, "Lord, how is it that you want me to respond to this? I've seen it, I know about it ... now what is it that you want me to do about it."

My prayer is for changed lives. And honestly, it's most often those who are ministering ... the team members themselves ... that come away the most changed. May that change continue as they go back to the states next week and throughout the rest of their lives. May that change be evident in me every day of my life.

changes
Yes, it is challenging to remember what we've experienced and continue to allow it to change our hearts and lives. Whenever she returned from trips to Honduras, Hannah would always say, "Mommy, I don't want to go back to living like I used to." May God help us to make lasting changes!
