Tulum, Mexico

Well where did I leave off? Isla Mujeres was a fantastic time but on the road again, off on another adventure.

A mid morning rise, and another breakfast consisting of 2 pieces of hard bread ( toast??) and jam, and a couple of terrible coffees. A ferry, 2 busses and a taxi and 3 rs later we arrive at our new hostek in Tulum. From the street it looks pretty funky. Grass roof, small pond in the entry, and very quiet...maybe a little TOO quiet. We start to think...What's wrong with this place. Why is is empty!....but everything turns out not too bad. No hot water and no security for our bags the biggest worry. Win some lose some. Drop our bags, and off to thew supermarket for some supplies. No mother, not beer this time. There is a kitchen here so finally we can try to save $$$ and cook for ourselves.

Supermarket was expensive! you would think being in Mexico it may be cheaper...not the case. Everything was only a little bit cheaper than Canada prices! bugger it. Back to the Hostel now for chicken burgers! Cant wait.

Ceremonies and rituals held here. Very impressive!
to the beach this morning. Walking. HOt already at 830am. We walk for over an hour to get there. Lovely GREEN water and white sand. Also plenty of foreign white pointers...always good. hehehe. We walked up to the Tulum Ruins and it was PACKED!! busses and busses of tourists barging their way in. We said stuff this and took a cab back home ( stuff the long, hot walk! ) 30 pesos and will come back early tommorrow.

Quiet night tonight ready for early day tomorrow.

We arrive at the Ruin site for opening @ 8am. No one around, beauty. The cameras fully charged ready for a workout. The Mayan ruins we saw were cool! It was once a working port. Trading in Jade, salt, honey and spices. Very religious people, there was lots of "Churches" and " offering tables" for the gods. They worshiped many gods, God of Rain, Sun, Trade and Fertility just to name a few. We will be learning a lot more about this I'm sure. We have many more ruins to see. Coba, Ek Balam, and the big one, Chichen Itza. I'm looking forward to it.

Had a bit of drama this morning. I woke up after a good sleep as usual, went for breakfast, shower etc. Then all of a sudden my back was ON FIRE!!! I dont know what it was, but my back was so ITCHY and BURNING I couldnt take it! I jumped into the shower and no better! I had to jump into bed and ( I know it sounds funny but I assure you, it wasnt ! ) laid on my back and scratched it like a dog would, arms and legs in the air!!!! Tam found some anticeptic stop itch cream ( thank god ) and it worked! Hooray! I couldnt believe it. It was unbearable!! We still dont know what it was. oh well hope it doesn't return.

Did nothing else today, really. Did some washing $18 au for 4 loads. Got bus tickets for our next voyage tommorrow.

That voyage is deep into the Yucatan jungle town of Valladolid. Home of the ancient ruin sites of Great Mayan Civilizations. Cool, cant wait.

Hope all is well!

Was a house made from perishable materials. Occupied by an upstanding member of the community. Was close to ritual buildings in the main square.
