Valentine's Day Dinner
Joe showed took us all to a little restaurant! He's not in the picture because he took it. So, yesterday (Sunday) was spent in bed! I still wasn't feeling well and I barely woke up in time for dinner. A few of us wanted to go into town to run to the store, but were reminded that most stores are closed on Sundays...BUMMER! So, The cold medicine had to wait until today! And man did I need that medicine...but we'll get to that later! I also spent a good portion of yesterday and today trying to figure out the lovely program we call...SKYPE! The internet here is kind of slow so needless to say, skype was cutting in and out. I was slightly discouraged, until we figured it out today!! Can you say EXCITING! Today, class started at 9:30 with Italian, and I feel like I'm catching on pretty quickly, but i will need to practice more in order to keep up. Our professor spends half of the time looking at me like I'm crazy. I'm sure it's because I look so confused. :-/ Then we had our individual and the community class. And to be honest, I still don't even understand why it's called that! Haha, I'm puzzled about it, but whatever! We talked about a LOT of
geography, and I don't think I'd covered most of that stuff since 8th grade so it was a well needed refresher. After class my roommates and I headed into Florence on the bus. We figured we'd run to the store and just grab a few things to eat since the food has been so-so. Oh, and we needed a blow dryer! 3 girls + no blow dryer = one week of wet hair! It was taking us FOREVER to find the grocery store, so I finally decided that I was just going to ask someone where it was. I asked where STANZA was, and the man in the pharmacy looked at me like I was nuts! He explained, in English, that stanza with a Z just means room, but that if I was looking for groceries the store is called STANDA with a D! Once we finally found Standa we had to hurry so that we would make it back in time for dinner at the villa. That was crazy because none of us knew where anything was and it's hard to ask since we only know broken Italian. On our way back we found a blow dryer, and only
because it was in a shop window! But man were we glad to find it. Then, we grabed cough drops, which I'm hoping will be good because they were SUPER expensive (like 7euro for a box) and they were behind the counter. We made it just in time for dinner, which was interesting. They fed us eggs with ham in them. It's so funny because for breakfast we get cereal, crossiants, and cookies, but for dinner we get eggs. I'm not so sure how I feel about that yet, but hey it tops the gross random soup that they've been feeding us. We also watched a movie with our professor tonight. I figured it would be some movie about our book, but it was actually Into the Wild. It was a story about a man who leaves everything he knows: his family, friends, money, car, etc. in order to live off of the land. His ultimate goal is to just get to Alaska and live in the wild. Throughout the movie he explains that happiness is nothing if you don't have anyone to share it with. And he also hints at the fact that everyone gets so caught up in life that they forget to live! But my favorite point of his, was that even if you aren't feeling strong, you need to tell yourself that you are. And that you can psych yourself up and do anything! Anyways, I guess it's time to do some more homework and then probably go to sleep! Oh, and sorry but I only have two more pictures! I stole them from other people here, but they're great, so I figured I'd share them anyways. Lastly, I just wanted to say that I'm loving all of the emails, comments, and facebook messages! It gives me something to do in my free time. On the week nights, most of us are just doing homework and hanging out in the library checkin email!
