On Monday, 6 days ago, I was laid off my job of almost 2.5 years. This is no surprise in the current economy. Lucky for me, I've been saving all my pennies....
By Tuesday I'd decided I wanted to use this gap to take a trip. Specifically I was looking for a meditation retreat perhaps with a bit of yoga as well. I thought I'd be going to India. I've had two trips planned to India and neither of them have ever panned out. I was eager to go and it sounded very sexy, all Eat, Pray, Love....but my heart kept pulling me towards Thailand. While combing the boards at IndiaMike.com, I was recommended a wat for meditation in the south of Thailand and I knew...I was going back!
By Thursday I'd bought my ticket to BKK on Qatar Airlines and now I'm furiously running about trying to tie up loose ends and pack. There's a lot left to do. I have 3 days til I'm in the air on Wednesday, Feb. 18th.
This is will be my 6th trip to Thailand. I just can't get enough of this amazing country!

First Stop: Bangkok
I'll land in the morning, cab it to my favorite guesthouse, Suk 11 (they know me by now...I think I've stayed with them over 15 times), have a fabulous Thai massage down the street and get some rest. That night I'll meet up with a NYC friend of mine who is living there teaching English. She is having a party and I'll do it like the locals that night..well, like the local expats anyway!
After a weekend in BKK, I plan to make side trips to both Khao Yai and Kanchanaburi before heading down south to Chaiya for the retreat at Suan Mokkh starting Feb. 28.
After the 10 day silent meditation retreat, I'll head to Khao Sok, maybe do a live aboard for some diving in the Similian islands, head down to Krabi and take a flight back up to BKK and head on back to NYC...
Hopefully winter will be almost over by the time I get home and I'll be jobless in the Springtime...so much better than jobless in the Winter!

Interesting option
India, Thailand are simply incredible in terms of the scenery you can see there. I did not have the chance to visit this countries yet but I would surely make almost the same timetable as you.
