the backyard
Like all travelers - we seem to always have that itch that we just can't scratch when we are at home - the travel bug always bites hard and there is only one cure. But, I know I should never start a sentence with but, but ...

While we are home bound our small plot of land has been keeping us busy and connected with the seasons, rainfall, harvests and lots of fun recipes for fresh vegetables. A quick peek in our cellar now reveals, aside from lots of our wine, jars of pickles, relish, chutney, also dill pickles and then a freezer full of home made sauces and pasta toppings. Ask us a question about what you can do with tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, etc. and we can assure you we have a vast array of innovative ways of preparing them, cooking them or storing them!

It is amazing how such a small portion of our 600 square metre plot of land has reconnected us with the natural cycle of the seasons and helped to keep our souls focused on the here and now. While I am typing this entry I can smell the results of Lorenza cooking up some pasta sauces to store away once our summer crop is depleted and it makes me feel extremely happy!

Aside from the vegetables we also have our grape vines going crazy and the promise of some nice red to drink sometime in the future - life is good! Add to that the fact we are also planning our next adventures overseas we have little to complain about and if you hear me saying anything negative please feel free to slap me in the face and tell me "you are such a fool!"

The three fold imperative - grow your own, eat your own, drink your own - we love it almost as much as traveling. Unlike previous years when we have been on the road during the Australian spring, this year we will be away during winter, which fits so well with the dormant period for our vines and other plants - what good planning - even if it did happen by accident.

In four months that itch may well be scratched - in the mean time we are happy eating, drinking and sharing our produce with family, friends and neighbors - we live such a good life compared to so many - sadhu, sadhu, sadhu!

Interesting concept "Three Fold Imperative"!
Hi Lorenza, You told me that gardening is your way of doing meditation. By seeing the "harvest" in your photos, I can feel it so much. You are not only mindful, I can see your good EFFORT and ENERGY too. "Three Fold Imperative" come in the right time, which is also part of the concept in"Kitchen Garden", being promoted in Aussie Education now. Life can be very simple, basic and healthy by applying 3Fold Imperative- afterall, our needs are easy to fullfill. I have attended one of the good speaker- Dr Rosemary Stanton's speech about Healthy Food. Her speech inspired me so much and she is promoting the same concept too! CHEER :)
