4 Jan to the 7th of Jan.

Richard had met an American girl on the plane from Panama who was living in Quito while she studied insects in Cotapaxi so we shared a taxi with her. We were staying in the Mariscal Sucre in a hostel Conor had recommended called centro del mundo, or something like that. It had a rum and coke night on Monday night while we were there. Basically they brought out 12 litres of rum and coke and everyone sat around drinking it. It was a really good way to get to know people and was a fun evening. The hostel also had great sandwiches which made Richard happy! And a really good room for everyone to socialise in.

For some reason, we just didn't take to Quito. Maybe it was because we had such a great time in New York and Panama and it was going to be hard to impress us with anything less amazing. Even though we weren't so fond of it, I still had a nice time exploring the old town. We happened upon some sort of rally for the president outside the president's palace which was fun to watch and we went to an amazing church type thing that had lots of Miguel De Santiago's paintings.

On our last night, we went out with some Ozzies and Americans from the hostel, after drinking lots of Pilsener and rum in the common room. It was fun and the Ozzies got in behind the bar and started serving drinks. But of a repeat of me in New York!
