Hmmm Heineken in a can!
500ml of Heineken in a can! "Can you get any better...." NB: We forgot the stupid camera when we were going to Camden so we dont really have any photo's to prove the following comments - Smic
Bee Sup sup, guess who?
Everyone I spoke to who has been overseas told me that my life will change forever and that I will look at everything in a different way. I was told this was the perfect opportunity to put myself to the ultimate test in many different situations.
I was so excited about this I decided to set a couple of goals for myself.
1: Stress less
2: Grow up
3: Self control
I suck at self control as was proved today at Camden Markets.
Although, I'll quickly mention we did go to the pub last night with some Aussies and South Africans from the hostel.
We watched wrestling, which was a bit awkward to be honest because sometimes I wonder if they're groping rather than fighting. Then the cricket, which started some friendly (I think) bickering between us all. I didn't care because Mitchell Johnson wasn't playing but anyway. Then we read an article about Boy George from Culture Club keeping a
New Beanie
My new beanie from Camden Market. male hostage in his hotel room. He is bald and fat now!! After a few drinks I decided I liked Culture Club so I argued I was sure the whole hostage incident was a misunderstanding. Smic disagreed...it was funny at the time but I think you had to be there.
You know, I think a pint is too much alcohol to serve in one go but I'm sure Smic will add his opinion at the end of this blog!
Camden Markets was too much for me. I wanted to dance around with excitement and then cry when I realised I didn't have any money. This place is seriously a MAZE OF DREAMS. *que uplifitng music*
I wasn't exagerating about the maze part, Camden Markets invites you to get lost as you can just wind through similar looking stalls all day. This is fun if you're an easy going sort of person, however, if you're impatient - I don't recommend it.
Holley, you would have LOVED it there. Promise me, you will save up truckloads of money and go to Camden Markets one day, you will buy everything.
They have hundreds of stalls, we didn't really
Bee Bee's new shoes!
Hand painted and one of a kind! look at the antiques and furniture. There were too many rave, doof, hippy, lolita, goth and just random fun stalls on the other side of the markets.
First of all there was a GIANT Cyberdog shop with tons of rave and cyber clothing. The whole store is lit by UV lights so it's really pretty in there. Cyberdog is great...but expensive. Smic got a beanie but I didn't buy anything. I did look at every single thing in the store though, we were probably in there for about 45 minutes.
I did buy some shoes. Pictures posted in the blog. They go up just under my knees so they replace my silver pony shoes (R.I.P beautiful Ponys) and they're hand painted. I know backpackers aren't supposed to buy shoes but Shoesies and me are in LOVE so I don't care!
Another great store was this guy who spray-painted warped cartoon designs onto hoodies and t-shirts. He is really, really talented. He had designs such as: an emo Spongebob Squarements, gangsta Minnie & Mickey Mouse saying "It's a thug life" and a Hello Kitty with a spray can - he would tag all of them as well (graffiti style writing). My favourite was the Hello Kitty. I desperately wanted to buy it but did show SOME self control. We actually ran out of money so I couldn't...and he didn't take credit.
Speaking of hello kitty there were some great shirts, with hello kitty turned inside out haha. It was still cute though, as gross as that sounds.
Other brief highlights:
*These tiny balls that feel like water when you touch them
*Explosive bang or high bang room odouriser - what does that do?
*The shop that looked like rainbows where the shop lady was dancing a lot
*Discovering that dodgy asian food tastes the same no matter what country you're in
If you're a close-minded sort of person or just not into those type of clothes, Camden is (at the very least) great for people watching. There are some weird and wonderful sorts, always dancing around & having fun. There's also some slightly shocked and some opinionated tourists who says things like, "Don't buy anything from Cyberdog, if you do, people will look at you like: OH MY GOD WHAT ARE YOU WEARING?"
P.s: How come some roads in London don't have pedestrian lights? It's really quite scary.
Peace out lovely people
Smic's view Camden markets was cool. Lots and lots of cool clothing which is all very unique. They had some awesome anime and japanese shirts which I was tempted to buy but I held back as I think I already have about 20 tops in my pack already. As Bee mentioned the place is a maze, its like lot of back alleys around a few buildings until you get deeper into the market where its packed with loads and loads of stalls. I had to put up with Bee whinging all day about everything she wanted haha putting her in that place is not a good idea. Its pretty much heaven for her!
After Camden I met up with a friend (Jame's) for dinner in London that I use to work with at macquarie. Was good to catch up and have a bite to eat and watch the soccer.
That's all from me, next blog will be from in Dublin where it will be even darker, colder and wetter.
P.S. Pints are awesome... Who ever thought of serving beer but in larger quantities should be awarded their own public holiday...
P.P.S Using the UK's weather as a fridge is awesome. Instead of walking down three flights of stairs in the hostel i figured leaving my drinks out the window in the ledge area works just as well! Started a trend. The next day I found the annoying american guy in my room doing the same thing.
P.P.P.S The American guy in my room is possibly the most inconsiderate person I've ever met and lives up to every single stero type about them. I hope I dont have to share a room with another American on this trip!
