Hi, it's Bee Dandy. We've had a fun couple of days. Food, food, food galore. Seriously.
We haven't been in London more than a week yet have already travelled to
Borough Markets twice.
I've never seen anything like it before. Must be heaven. I can't even begin to describe the atmosphere of this place. It's Londons oldest food market, has been running for over 250 years. It's a wholesale fruit and vegetable market, meaning you can buy directly from Londons farmers & sells some very fancy pants food straight from the people that make it. Plus, Jamie Oliver shops there so that gives it extra points obviously haha.
Day 1 Thursday: I think my jaw was permanately dropped. The only downfall was not being able to buy everything. Smic got a wild boar sasuage sandwich & I got just normal sasuage one. On the menu they tell you which farm the pig is from etc. Plus, the pepper sauce was yum. How can something that is ideally a sasuage sizzle taste so good?!
For dessert I had a chocolate brownie. Apparently it's Londons best brownie & I don't think they're lying. It tasted like a big block of
ganache!!!!! Smic got this but in cookie form.
They were also filming Market Kitchen there which was awesome...because we're pretty much famous now due to slyly walking back and forth in front of the camera. We didn't get to try any of the food though.
Day 2 Saturday:The weekend completely transforms the market, it was completely packed. Everyone was super happy stuffing their faces with good food. I had a lamb burger with tzatziki, olive oil & wild rocket. Smic had a beef burger with bacon, blue veined cheddar cheese & onion. We were very happy, little vegemites to say the least.
We tried truffle! A truffle olive oil & a balsamic syrup with truffle in it. It's pretty nice nice...tastes and smells like beetroot dip. They were selling 100 grams of truffle for 100 pounds. We had the honor of smelling the precious truffle lol...mmm beetroot dip. Personally, I think it's a tad bit overrated but it's nice all the same.
I decided at the markets that I really like cheese. Not so much the crumbly, sour cheese but the creamy, melt in your mouth cheese. Mmm,
creamy. We bought a 19 month aged comte
cheese. I have no idea what that really means but all I know is it tasted freakin' good! Due to going over the budget, I had ham + cheese + baguette for dinner. Yay 😊
Borough markets is pretty comforting. I think that it's because you're being served by families who have been there for yearssssss and your money goes straight to them for them, rather than a supermarket chain. You can tell they worked really hard to make the markets so successful, they don't skimp on quality at ALL and that is something to really appreciate when they are people trying to rip you off everywhere you go.
Btw, I found my Borough Markets hottie. Sam, Anneke and Nic, you would be proud. He works at the beer stall, I even got a discreet photo by making Smic stand next to him hahahaha. He's not actually hot but he has a cool mohawk and it's fun to have a market hottie.
Other than that, we haven't been up to much. We're still crashing out at about 9 o'clock and being wide awake at 4am. Oh, we got some maccas coupons - score! We were supposed to
MEAT
Sorry Nic & Izzy...however, it's marbled and dark and looks good. go to Fabric, warehouse turned nightclub but upon being told that we'll be set back about 6 pounds for a beer and 10 pounds for vodka redbull, we decided aganist it.
The backpackers is fun, it's run by mostly aussies - one of them looks like a hobbit, it's cute! It's crazy how many aussie people are in London. A lot of people pass out on the couches and it's funny to watch them wake up, wondering how they got there. We do have a rude american backpacker in our room though. I don't think he means to be rude but he is.
Btw, this whole time I completely forgot that we went and saw Buckingham Palace. Goes to show how exciting it is. Yep. Oh and Big Ben.
Smic's thoughts.... London is great, weather has been a bit cold but not too bad. Getting around is easy as well, the tube system is great. Trains come all the time and there are so many stations and ways of getting places even if you get lost.
Markets were awesome. The food was incredible. I had possibly the greatest burger ever in the world with really
More meat
I think it's the forerib Smic was obsessed with. good quality beef, tasty bacon, big chunks of onion and creamy chedder cheese to top it off. Wild boar sausage I ate on our first trip there was also really good.
I can only imagine the food I would cook if I lived here. The steaks look delicious I was tempted to just buy one and eat it even with no way of cooking it!!! Either that or framing it and carrying it around with me =)
There was also a beer stall with hundreds of different types of beer. I wouldnt even know where to begin drinking in that place! The pink elephant looked good though, mix of ale and red wine grapes!
I think i'll definitly have to come and live in london at some pt in my life. Its grown on me in the past week and I already really like it. It will have to be somewhere close to borough markets though!
Only a few more days here then off to Dublin for 6 weeks. Going to attempt to find some work for a few weeks to earn some much needed Euro!
Cheers
