So far we haven´t met any other travellers who came the back way to Cuzco as we did. We knew it was going to be really set up and touristy here but we were still kind of blown away after being in smaller towns of locals for a week or so beforehand.

Cuzco has a lot of people offering a lot of things: young women offering massages, little boys offering candy bars and cigarettes, sketchy guys offering drugs, waiters enticing you to come into their restaurant (so much good veg food!), grandmas offering to do your laundry and everyone offering tours, tickets and tourist info. There is lots to buy, do, see and consume, which is probably why the time went so fast and we still don´t feel like we´ve done it all.

Tonight is our last night in Cuzco. We stayed 6 nights before the Inka trek to Machu Picchu and then 1 (and barely a half) afterwards. More about all that in a later entry.

We really enjoyed sitting in the plazas watching the groups of Argentine kids preening, sharing mate (tea) and playing their guitars. This place is crawling with Argentinians since it´s their summer vacation. We asked around and found out that we should be able to see a Boca Juniors soccer match when we´re in Buenos Aires.

We visited the churches and museums, drank coca tea and tried to sleep through the pounding music of the disco below our hostel room until 5am every morning. That is the only drawback of the place though. The employee is super nice and accomodating and there is a menagerie of awesome pets--two dogs and a rabbit!

After about 3 days of just walking around the city, we decided to actually take in some sights. We were blown away by the Basillica Cathedral with its ample collection of 15th, 16th and 17th century art, its towering gothic columns, multiple golden alters and detailed woodwork on the doors, pulpit and choir. Sorry, no pics allowed inside, but we´re including some others we (mostly John) took while in Cuzco.
