So I made it!! After a slightly delayed red-eye flight, I emerged blearily into the Buenos Aires airport and was picked up by Laura, a friendly woman who works at the youth hostel where I´m staying. The drive in from the airport was surreal: hot and hazy, lots of tall green trees interspersed with concrete towers.

My hostel is in an area of town called San Telmo, and I haven´t quite figured out what type of neighbourhood it is, partly because I am too tired to figure anything out right now... and partly because I need to go on a big wander to get a sense of the place.

This is my first time staying at real youth hostel and I have to say it´s quite the adjustment. Always locking up your belongings, remembering where you put everything, having your little wee bed as your docking station (and I´m on the top bunk!!) Hopefully after a good night´s sleep it will all start to make sense.

I need to decide how long I´m staying here and when to buy my bus ticket to get to Bariloche, where I plan to study Spanish for two weeks. It will be a 24-hour bus ride to get there (!) but Argentina is famous for its long-distance buses where the seats recline, and they even bring you food! In Bariloche I´m supposed to be staying with a host family which is a nice alternative to staying at hostels.

Well, I´ll sign off for now and write again when I have my wits a bit more about me.
