Hello Everyone!!

I have made it to New Zealand!! I left Monday the 5 of January and arrived here the 7th. Crossed international dateline. Was picked up at the airport by Simone and her host couple, she met Couch Surfing. She has been staying with them and they are terribly nice and generous and showed us around Auckland besides putting us up and feeding us. New Zealand reminds me a bit of California, with the sea, foliage and hills and climate. But a bit wetter. Downtown Auckland is very nice with lot of shops and people around not like our deserted inner cities. The city is very spread out between two oceans. There are many extinct volcanic craters in the area. One we looked down into from Mt Eden and another has been made into an botanical garden where we hiked around.
Went to a transporation museum where we learned about an early heroine of flying--Jean Batten. In Auckland at some intersections you can walk diagonially across the street at the light. And when the light is green for pedestrians you hear a little, tu,tu, tu.
I was looking forward to having fresh fruit here and yes there are fresh peaches that are grown in New Zealand. Goodbye from Kiwi Land, Kay
