Edit Blog Post
so tis 2009. 2008 was a good year I reckon, a jaunt around Thailand and arrival in Oz. So at the end of the last blog we were in Manly ( a month ago, I do apologise ) and after that we headed back to Narabeen to do some more camping, cos it was cheap. Unfortunately there ain't too much to do around there, it being mine and Stefs 3rd visit and we spent 2 weeks there. The most exciting thing was the weather! Occasionally it was extremely stormy and that isn't great when you're in a tent. Several poles snapped and a large tear appeared in the top after a particularly windy day. Add that to the broken zips and severe lack of pegs and you have a very unstable tent. One day the rain and wind were so bad, puddles formed inside so we had to abandon ship. Luckily, seeing as we are such frequent visitors to the camp site, we got a cabin for cheap for the night. Twas lovely to sleep in a warm bed with sheets and a mattress! On returning to the tent we were greeted by a swimming pool, and extremely glad we weren't

this bloody thing jumped out the tent i was folding up, the one i had slept in for 2 weeks! i made such a comotion a small crowd gathered and a nice ozzie bloke came to my rescue and got rid of it sleeping in that the night before. Anyway enough about the weather, although some days it was so hot I was up at 6.30 unable to sleep and had to go straight to the beach for a dip. Pure nightmare.
Whilst camping there was some excitement....We went along to the Surf Livesaving Club for their Xmas party which was very like going to a school disco. But hey cheap booze and some dancin tunes, all good. Another night we went to the cinema, woooooo. Oh and then there was Jane's work's Xmas party, a picnic on the beach, followed by some drinking in the local RSL club and a late night house 'party.' This was all good until they refused me entry into the RSL club cos of my thongs! So one of the doctors from Jane's work got me a pair of his thongs which were a bit scabby and 6 sizes too big for me. But in Oz logic that was enough to get me in. Now I didn't reckon I was all that drunk, but Mum phoned at some point and I have no real recollection of our conversation....
Anyway after a long 2 weeks we headed back
into the city, to a hostel in the CBD, West Enders. Wisnae too bad, I was glad to be back with civilisation tbh. The first night we went along to the Neighbours Xmas Party where we met some of the stars and came 4th in the quiz! Becky also tried to win a bar tab by dancing constantly, which I had to join in with, oh dear. We then hobbled along to the famous Srcuffy Murphys Irish pub. I dont know what it is about Irish people but on every corner theres another irish pub and everyone inside is pure wasted! On Xmas Eve we joined our hostel at a pub down the road for a free xmas buffet, pure dead brilliant, then off to the Scubar for a free Champagne. I really wanted to dance but nobody else did, gutted. We did get some rather daft photos though.... On xmas day we went off to Bondi for the Sunburnt festival. Basically a lot of drunk people in Santa hats dancing to mental dance music. So we sat in the sun and drank lots of beer 😊 , oh and had a Mcds for lunch. (not my first choice....)
On
Boxing day we were invited to a BBQ at Angus' house (hes from Forfar originally!) at Seaforth, a lovely suburb of Sydney with its own harbour. Once again we got to see Bob the dog!
After another week we had to move hostels to Glebe, another wee suburb, for New Year. 12 folk in a room, not the quietest place, but twas a comfy enough bed, and free pancake brekkie at the weekend 😊 On hogmanay we left the hostel at 10am to pick up booze and get to East Balmain park, which had the most amazing view of the Harbour Bridge. Armed with a few beers and litres of wine, we settled down in the sunshine waiting for nightime. Unfortunately by 9pm, the place was utter carnage, folk falling into the water, pissheads falling over us, and empties thrown all over the place. Mind you, the fireworks were awesome!
So now I'm back in Sydney, job-hunting 😞 The other 3 have gone off to Brisbane via Newcastle to get farm work, while I prefer to stay near the beach and away from any farms! Heading over to DeeWhy tomorrow for about a week, to perfect my surfing! Oh and
find somewhere to live for the next 3 months... minor problem!
