So as promised, here is the new years blog that deservedly gets its own blog ;-)

Wednesday, 31 Dec 2008, was pretty chilled = taking care of the odd bit of admin you need when travelling! Our only new years plan was 7pm dinner with all the mates we made (see previous blog)! Johannes, the local from Java & the good guy that he is, made all the reservations & in typical Asian style stated that it is a 30 minute walk only! Literally an hour later, exhausted, thirsty, hungry & sweating a treat, we arrived at the very nice Indian Restaurant - Queens Plate!

Chatting, interacting & socialising with soo many "new" people was fantastic! Especially considering that this was one of the objectives of the trip ;-) Dinner itself was really good & probably the closest I have come to food tasting similar to back home ;-) We decided to walk back, bought noisy trumpets along the way & headed to the beach for the fireworks display that was happenning less than 200 meters from our place. At Kuta beach, we counted in the new year together, watched the fireworks on display, listened to the music pumping from the bars across the road, wished each other well for the new year & send sms messages to all our loved ones wherever they are in the world ;-) (irrespective of the time differences - same same ;-)) We stuck around here for a while longer - & hard as this may be to believe - the guys, not influenced by Jay & I, were keen to head back to their hotel to smoke some hubbly ;-) No complaints from our side ;-)

But making our way back to the hotel was not plain sailing! Ever been trapped in a human traffic jam??!! Probably only in Asia/Indonesia! Poppies Lane I, our road to the hotel, was jam packed with padestrians! ! Afraid of being stuck in the 4m wide lane & caught in the middle of a stampede was not our ideal way of starting off the new year! So we were patient waited for it to clear up a bit! More than an hour later we started making progress. The others took the long way back while myself, Daniel & James weaved our way through the crowd to our place to pick up the hubbly!

So , roughly 2:15am & with the hubbly, we arrived at their hotel last & was extremely surprised to find them all in the hotel pool clothes and all! The rule was get in as is except phones & wallets ;-) Crazy it seemed, the 3 of us had no choice and gladly obliged - why not??!! Aaaah; it was crazy & we had to be asked to keep it down by the security guard - as if anyone was in the hotel room in Bali at 2am on new years eve ;-) The celebrations continued with hub on the boys balcony & plenty of laughs & various new years stories were exchanged! Slowly but surely our group of 15 was melting down as eyes started to shut. At 5am with only 5 of us still smoking & not overly tired, & the only phrase that mattered was "it's new years. why not??!!", we called a cab & made our way north of Bali to Sanur Beach to watch the 1st sunrise of 2009 ;-) We caught it just in time & spend a very tired 1hr on the beach before heading back to Kuta!

At 7am, afraid we might burnout on the 1st day of the new year;-), we all agreed we had enough & hit the sack! It was only a few hrs later we were out & about again to make good use of the sunshine in Bali!

It was a good evenning, morning & a fantastic way to bring in the new year ;-)

To everyone who stumbles upon this blog, selamat tahun baru (happy new year)! Have a fantastic year!

Morgz my boy (yes I said it): "TO 2009, THE BEST YEAR YET - EVER!!"

take care everyone
Zubs
