Hello & welcome all ;-)

So this is my 1st blog - some house keeping rules - will keep the write ups sweet & short, as too much writing is boring & loses interest! Pictures speak louder than words ;-) & ignore spelling, MBA is over & on holiday ;-)

Useful word: hubbly bubbly/hub/oka pipe/pipe = all the same thing!! (lol)

So all the flights went well & smooth thankfully! Arrived in Bangkok & followed all the extremely valuable tips from my dear mate Liz (thanks again!!). As recommended by her, took the private & registered cab to the accomodation recommended ensured we were where we wanted to be and quite comfortable (private shower, warm water, aircon, tv & western toilet ;-))! After checking in, we wandered down to Koahsan Rd, the heartbeat of Bangkok for tourists.

Here we had dinner @ a resataurant & not according to the prices decribed by everyone! Cheap but expensive for Bangkok! Fortunately we are quick learners & realised our error! The night market does not really entail restuarants ;-) Silly! After this we headed back to our room, gathered our hubbly & "knighted" our journey with our 1st pipe on the guest house porch ;-) Mint flavoured ofcourse!

They call it jetlag - never really experienced it myself before - but we woke up at 2pm the next day (Thursday)! Shocking - but I will blame it on the culmination of my studies & jetlag! Maybe this can explain why we making use of the free internet between 2am & 5am right now.

Today, after brunch, we smoked hub on the porch discussing our plans & consolidating this with my handy travellers guide on Bangkok & South Thailand. Having done our "homework" we booked & paid (after lots of checking for best deal as advised) for our trip to Ko Tao (South Thailand), where we intend to do our padi course. Part of our journey is to mix and meet new people, so with this in mind we settled for an above average mode of transport as suppose to luxury & comfort (as most of you reading this blog would have expected of me ;-)) On Saturday we take the overnight bus (reclining chairs & aircon) to Champuin where we catch the speedy catameran to Ko Toa. It is an 8hr bus ride & 90mins boat ride - so we arrive there Sunday morning +/- 9am - according the travel agent!

We also shopped a bit for new t-shirts and not once paid the full price! Good bargaining skills I must add! Still room for improvement though. Herefater we had good dinner for less than R20 incl drinks ;-) Smoked our pipe at another restuarant which actually serves hubbly for 300baht (+/-R100) Insane! Can buy a new one after 2 of those! Lotsa heads turned our way in envy at our "unique" fish tank piped hubbly. The guy incharge of the hubs even came over to chat & taste! Needless to say he was very impressed! We even made our 1st "new friend" through the hub ;-)

So this is where we are now, cant sleep so on the internet as its free! Thought we would take advantage of this ;-) Friday is Mosque & we attending "Friday fight night" - some big mu-thai match that is happenning specifically tomorrow so we were advised to leave it until tomorrow. Saturday, before the night bus, we will go check out the floating market & pack for our next destination.

So the next blog will be from the sunny & white beaches of Ko Tao! Cant wait ;-))

IMPRESSIONS:
the good:
- Thailand is cheap! (Morgz, I have a prezzie for you already, you will love it! Glad you not here, we will go insane!Hilarious t-shirts and dirt cheap)
- Lots of tourists - dont feel too outta place

the bad:
- their accents are annoying - they shout what they sell & ends with an exaggertion
- the registered cab speedometer was not woking & neither was his mileage reading - is their any honesty here??!!
- despite Asians generally being small, they do not stock size small t-shirts for me ;-( = the sales people all try to convinceme I am a medium (lol)

the ugly:
- being offered ping pong shows for 10baht - 50baht ( that is R4 - R17) What the hell??!! Are they that crap or just so many that competition is forcing the economies of scale??!!

Loving it though!!

Zubs
