Click click. Tap tap. Sitting here, in front of my computer, scrolling through the hundreds of volunteer opportunities there are all over the world. Feeling at peace with the world today, lounging in my fortunate circumstances. So many people could potentially benefit from my desire to help, who will be the unfortunates who get caught up in this period of benevolancy?
Hmm. China. Never been there before. Xi'an, walled city, Terracotta warriors. Not completely remote, though awfully far from other countries should war be declared. I have big boots, the soles should last until Mongolia should the need arise. It's only about 1200 miles. Is that far?
Name, address, blood type. Oh. It's booked. OK. Must put 'Learn Mandarin' on my To-Do list.
I have completed my TEFL course - though the certificate is nowhere in sight. They didn't put postage on, and by the time I traipsed down to the Post Office to recover it, it had been returned to sender. Still, according to the elusive coordinator sitting somewhere in America, the actual certificate is not a requirement. They can take me as they find me, though I may travel to Manchester to go and shout at the TEFL people.
