Welcome to the Alpenzoo
I'm Signe, and I'll be your blog guide. Hej, I'm Signe J. We went to the Alpenzoo in Innsbruck, Austria. We met our friends there. They're living in Munich, Germany this year...it's Bruce, Marcy, Molly and Josiah Wells. They used to live in St. Peter, Molly's Dad is a professor, too. Now they usually live in Philadelphia, but they are having a year-long adventure, just like us. Molly is my age. Marcy was Jorgen's first day care Mom.
Our first stop at the zoo is the otters. The otters are some cute creatures that like to swim and eat fish. We were lucky to catch them having lunch. One of the workers came over and she asked them to do a trick. When they "stood up", she dumped a bucket of live fish in their pond, then the otters would have to catch the fish on their own. One of the otters was trying to hide his fish in a log, but the other otter would steal them.
We then followed the smell to the farm animals. The alpine farm animals are a little different. The sheep were kind of weird looking, they had extra head stuff (Mom said skull, is what that was). There were
The otter
The otters were our favorites. also two baby cows that were the cutest things ever. The little baby cow liked to lick you and their tongues felt weird. It seems like all the cows here have big bells on their necks. Moving on to the pigs. They were big and noisy and were pink with black dots.
Now, moving on to the lynx. There were some cute lynx cubs , they were the cutest things ever. O.k, I just said the baby cows were, but the lynx were, too. There was one little lynx who always sneak up on the others and would pounce on them. There was also a little one who was trying to catch the hanging meat, but he didn't succeed while we were watching. They are good at blending in with the logs and are sometimes hard to see.
Next, moving on to the long horned sheep things. One of them was the cutest little baby thing ever, too. There was also this one with huge horns that didn't move from where it was standing. I think it would be hard to hold up those big horns.
Then we moved on to this huge golden eagle. There was
Strike a pose
Like an otter! a dead thing laying on the rocks, but it turned out to be fake. The eagle was eating a dead mouse or rabbit, though.
Now, moving on to the little white ferret thingy. It was white but had a black tip on it's tail (Emma says it's an ermin). They change colors from black to white. They used to use the ermin tips on the queens crown., so this must be one of the last living ones.
Now, moving on to the moose. The moose didn't look like I expected, they had way longer legs than I thought and their backs were just kind of akward.
Now I should probably tell you about the bear and the beaver. The beaver was very fat and Molly put her hand up against the cage and the beaver came over and put his little paw against hers! The bear was huge and he looked pretty bored, even though he had a very nice habitat.
The ferrets. There was a white ferret that was always digging around for something. There was also a gray and white one that looked like it was dead. There was another one hiding in the
?
These animals were hard to identify. hay, but we knew it was there because we could see it breathing.
Now, last, but not the least. The little mice were about as big as...maybe...a quarter. They were so cute and they liked crawling up on the plants, through the logs and they snacked on seeds.
Now, this zoo was up on a hill, but it was great. The weather was pretty cold, though. Then we went to the gift shop where my sister and brother got these really cool posters. I got an owl key chain to add to my collection. We saw owls at the zoo, and I was the one that spotted it blended in with the nature. I could find it because I saw it's yellow eyes.
The Alpenzoo was one of the most fun things we did while we were in Italy and Austria. Thanks for reading my blog, bye-bye/hej då.
