Jolin, the Chinese Superstar!!!

Tonight I had one of those experience we label as "Only in China". Vivian invited Summery and I to go with her to a concert - given by Jolin, a superstar in China! She is the Chinese equivalent of Brittany Spears (back in her prime anyways). Vivian's uncle has some pretty good connections, and scored her three tickets free of charge! Just so you have an idea of what an amazing experience this was - the cheapest tickets to this concert were going for 1288Y (more then $200CAD!!!), and we had tickets for the VIP section! So not only did we get to go the hottest concert of 2008 in Wuhan, but we were among only 200 or so people who had VIP tickets. Pretty cool hey?

In answer to the question I'm sure you have on your mind - no, I hardly understood a word. But it was so much fun!!! This was a show like I've never seen, fully of choreography and special effects designed to WOW every person who came to the show. There were fireworks (at one point even spinning pinwheels), water works (like fireworks, but water), and lasers, not to mention TV screens several stories high and a whole "posse" of dancers. The stage was enormous, bigger then anything I've seen at GM place, and they made use of the whole thing. There were stages within stages, floating chairs, dancing poles, and many costume changes. And there were lights... lights... LIGHTS... everywhere!!! Not only on the stage, but almost every person in the crowd had a glow wand (including us) and they were all on the entire time.

I took some video with my camera, and was planning on putting some of it on here, but the bass came through so distorted that I won't subject you to it. I hope you enjoy the pictures though...

All in all, it was a very enjoyable evening, one I won't be forgetting anytime soon. Sometimes I love being a foreigner in China!!! (By the way, I'll bet you I was the only one there😉
