Up early so we could set off early to be able to get a good spot with a view of the bridge. We had heard that people camp out to be at the front! We had choosen a spot where you were allowed to bring your own alcohol otherwise it would cost a fortune. So we setted off in the boiling heat armed with about 4l of water the same in wine, lots of food and a brolly.
We got to the park (Embarkation park) at 11.30am and the gates didn't open until 5pm. Also they only let in 3000. There were people down on the grass queuing but we thought we would go and look at the actual gate, to see the queue. There was no one there, so we sat on the pavement and started the queue!! WE WERE FIRST!!!! Other people joined us at about 12 including friends from the hostel we had been staying at, Si and Tom.
So the day consited of trying to stay out of the sun, eating and drinking lots (water) and generally just waiting. We were quite disappointed actually because the queue didn't get that big! Still it was fun.

The guy in charge let us in early so that was great, about 3pm. So we got a good spot at the railings with a great view of the harbour bridge. We opened our wine then and sat in the shade of the tree. We sat with Si and Tom and made some more friends with some Jordie people. (danielle, Dave and friend)

At 9pm there were some fireworks and they were so good, really wicked!! So the 12am had a lot to live up to. This all reboosted our energy but realised it was still a loonng wait until midnight. We carried on drinking aand eating and chatting. Eventually 12 o'clock came, we got positioned on the fence and watched. Everybody was cheering, ohing, areing and it was a really good atmosphere. They were so cool, we could see 2 sets of fireworks from where we were as well as the ones that came of the bridge. The theme of the show was hearts and the heart of the city. There was a lit up heart on the bridge from 9 o'clock and every hour it grew so by the end it was all lit up. looked cool. We got some great little video clips too.

When it was all over we left the park and caught 2 trains back to Newtown (I think we were the only ones who paid for tickets!) We called home to wish people an early Happy New Year! Then crept back into the house at about 2am.
What a wicked fun time we had.
